Default Kayak on a Mustang?

Given the recent topics, what the heck!

I recently bought a kayak and I have to steal my wife's suv every time I
want to go paddling... what's the best way to roof rack a kayak or canoe
without risking any damage to the car? Are there any brands of racks that
are safer for the car? Are the foam pads 'good enough'?

Thanks

Thule makes a rack that fits my Porsche. You'd have to look up your model and
year to see what they have. Mine was out of stock for a year or so but then
they did a production run and I was able to order it at REI. Your kayak will
end up being rear biased so you might want a bra to protect the finish on
the front (I put a bra on the car whenever I'm carrying a kayak to prevent
the front tiedown ropes from damaging the paint.

I'd avoid foam blocks as they make the paint dull and your car is low enough
that it'll be easy to see.
