650,000 new members ahead of Bank Transfer Day
WASHINGTON (11/4/11)--At least 650,000 consumers across the nation have
joined credit unions in the past four weeks, reflecting consumers'
reactions to rising fees at banks, according to a survey by the Credit
Union National Association (CUNA).

What happens when the credit unions get so big that they trigger the
Durbin amendment? What happens when merchants stop taking CU debit
cards or tack on a surcharge?
(The Durbin amendment does not apply to small banks and CUs so they
can still charge the higher click fee)

Yeah, that's the ticket. Let's not do anything to express displeasure
with big banks. That'll teach 'em.

I didn't say that, I just pointed out that your credit union is
probably not going to be bound by the Durbin amendment and the
merchants will be paying more when you use it.
Certainly, if a bank ****es you off, yank your money and find another
one. I am just finding that they all seem to have their own problems.
I currently have accounts in 4. Three started out as small banks and
got "merged" up to the point that they are part of a megabank

My credit union isn't going to suddenly become "anti-consumer" after all
its years serving middle-class customers. And neither is my savings
bank. Their boards of directors aren't filled with corporate whores.

I had a nice relationship with a small bank in Jax. It was "merged" into
larger banks four times the five and a half years I lived in that area,
and each time the quality of the "banking experience" declined.

I don't disagree with your "message" about anti-trust. It should be
applied to all manner of institutions.

Bigger rarely is better for the consumer.
