Huh? whadda you know?

Tim surely you're not using this to suggest that global
warming isn't
happening, are you?

I dunno. I'd always thought that glaciers and giant ice
shelves were
melting away because the earth was getting warmer, then you
hear about
a massive chunk of ice forming and....

I know we had a decent frost last night, but it's November, we're
supposed to have a decent frost last night.

I assume you like somewhere in the middle of the country and are
completely unaware of the weird weather most of the country has
been
expeiencing the past year.

Are you aware of the spike in tornados?

So far weather has been changing for 4.5 billion years and this
year was
mild by comparison. And the predictions from the sane say the same
thing is in store for the next 4.5 billion years.

Are you saying the ending of the ice age was caused by man? Oh,
the shame of it all.

He probably is, but I don't know anybody else that is sane or without
a monetary interest saying that global warming is CAUSED by man.

OTOH, I think there are a lot of reasons to believe that man
CONTRIBUTES to global warming.

But how much, and to what end... The world has been hotter and colder
than now, it has changed faster than it is changing now, and it will
probably stay in the long run, pretty similar to what it is now...

The world has a great climate control system in the whole spinning
thing. Too much heat will make for more hurricaines which take a
tremendous amount of heat energy and spin it out to the poles where it
can dissipate. If the world gets warmer, more hurricnes, if the world
gets colder, less hurricanes, pretty simple really. I think the world
has things under control and it is doing what it does, just fine. More
hurricanes means something maybe us, maybe the sun, maybe both are
doing
what they do to the earth. The earth will respond and balance
things out
like it's been doing for 4 billion years...

The concern is a potential for a tipping point. The ramifications of
that are truly scary.

Besides, a lot of the green applications save money and resources. I
actually like to save money, so I don't see the problem.

Show me one...

Forget the silly carbon credit stuff. That's just crap.

LED lightbulbs.
Insulation
Carpools
Vegetable and fruit gardens
Fuel efficient cars
sealing your home to lower heating and cooling costs
Making your own green cleaning products
Using the library as opposed to buying books
Irrigating with rain water
Stand-by power strips
Paperless billing and online bill pay

If you need more, hit me up!

Lowes had 40W LED bulbs on sale last week for $10 They seem to have the
brightness of 60W I bought 20 of them.

What are stand by power strips?

Those things are made by slave labor in China, polluting the environment
worse than a lot of other technology, and through practical experience I
can tell you, they don't actually last that much longer than regular
bulbs in frequent service on and off cycles like in the bathroom. They
are great for the attic or basement or other places but I hate changing
them so often, it's nerve wracking...

They don't pollute any more than a standard light bulb. Where did you
get that idea? And they last about 25 TIMES longer.

Your current struggles with your boiler. Somebody with a technical
education of about the 10th grade or higher could easily answer
your
question.

Go for it Dearie. Answer his question.

I don't pay attention to the Harry/Plum clone... she doesn't have any
answers anyway.

Her answers were better than your questions.

Yeah, you would say that. You think a non-answer insult is an
"answer"!?
LOL!

I think your "comments" on global warming and many other issues either
are or border on idiotic. As to your home heating problem, I have no
comment beyond saying I'd call in someone who knows about these systems
intimately rather than depend upon conflicting advice from a newsgroup.
When I was getting specs and bids for the new genny system here, the
best advice on placing the generator came from the field technician (a
licensed plumber) from the company from which we buy our LP gas, and the
consultation didn't cost me a dime. His advice resulted in a cost
savings of nearly $2000.

I am just trying to tweak my system.. Once I understand the principal, I
will be able to the same way I diagnosed cars.. You will never
understand Harry, you obviously should stick to paying others to do your
work for you...

As I posted, I got quality technical advice and not only didn't it cost
me anything, it saved me a couple of bucks. Your local fuel supplier
should be able to help you out without charge.

I don't have the diagnostic instruments or specialized tools necessary
to determine what is wrong with today's large engines, nor do I have the
specialized knowledge. I do keep my old technology lawn mower, lawn
tractor, chain saw and string trimmer running properly.

That's the difference. I have experience with engines, plumbing,
electrical, etc, etc.... I do a lot of work myself. I do the research
first so I understand the system, then I go fix it. My middle daughter
did all of the fiberglass work on the first boat I ever built, my 17
year old just did the top end, valves, timing chain, piston, rings,
surclip, shims (using the micrometer) and rebuilt her own race engine.
It has been a one kick motor for almost 30 engine hours since then...

I have the tools, I have the internet. I asked here to get pointed in
the right direction, you have nothing to add, so go to ****ing hell and
keep hiding in your basement with nothing but unclever one liners and
your delusions of grandeur...

I have met two guys in the last few weeks who have inspired me. Sunday
my daughter did a few laps with Doug Henry. I watched him come off the
track and pull up to the trailer, lean the bike with the big roll cage,
unstrap one leg after another and move them the to wheelchair, pull
himself over to it, and roll off the trailer. All the time his kid (who
does not ride) was doing bicycle wheelies around the parking lot.
Yesterday I was walking by a guy on the track and he called me over. I
didn't recognize him but I went over to him. As I drew closer I said
Jeeze Mike, you lost weight? He said no, I am dying... He is 49, has a
kid ready to go pro, and a wife and a 10 year old daughter. He has maybe
6 mos to two years. He was out there laughing and training his son like
nothing was going on at all...

Folks like this are why I will never live like you Harry. When I tweak
the furnace, my kids and wife will be there and understand too. They can
hook up the generator, change the oil in it, wash the air filters. They
can change tires, or even a carburator, they can handle the nail gun to
fix a roof and know how to use hot tar, they can repair an electric
fence and start an excavator and probably dig a bit of a hole.... And if
like Mike I don't last a whole lot longer, my wife and kids will be able
to run things just fine. How is your wife gonna' do changing the oil on
that new generator, or pulling a leaf out of the intake if you are down,
sick, or the best possibility, dead? Yeah, didn't think so....

Harry's a coward and afraid of his own shadow.

40 Watt LEDs? There are such devices, but they're very expensive, more
than $10 each. Maybe you are confused and meant "CFL" bulbs. There are
*slight* differences between the two, but a self-described *wrench* like
you would know that, eh?

Right?

Lowes had 40W LED bulbs on sale last week for $10 They seem to have the
brightness of 60W I bought 20 of them.

Those things are made by slave labor in China, polluting the environment
worse than a lot of other technology, and through practical experience I
can tell you, they don't actually last that much longer than regular
bulbs in frequent service on and off cycles like in the bathroom.

40 Watt LEDs? There are such devices, but they're very expensive, more
than $10 each. Maybe you are confused and meant "CFL" bulbs. There are
*slight* differences between the two, but a self-described *wrench* like
you would know that, eh?

Right?
