My 91 merc. 5.0 LX with a Alpha I gen II dies when shifting into
reverse. This has happened suddenly after 12 years. I remember reading
that there is a cut-out switch in the throttle that may be the cause.
I have both service manuals but find no reference to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could be your shift interupt switch, is your drive hard shifting, any delay
when that interupt is switching will kill your engine.

your shift cable needs adjusting. micro-cut out switch is mal-positioned.
