Hi group,
I will be cruising the Chesapeake this weekend for the first time on my Regal 26' pocket cruiser w/ single 350 Mercruiser. This will be my first time on the Chesapeake Bay. The plan is to put in at the Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace Friday morning, and cruise down to Annapolis for the sailboat show on Saturday. We are hoping to find a mooring, or a slip for Friday night within walking distance of the show. How long is the trip from Havre de Grace to Annapolis? And can anyone recommend a transient dock for Friday night? Is it possible to tie off at the public docks for the night? If yes, are there any publics near the boat show? Not much of a plan I know, but like I said, I have never been on the Chesapeake before. Mike Howard |

You should buy a good book of Bay charts if you plan to spend time on that body of water. Buy it before you go. Your chances of finding a slip or mooring in Annapolis the weekend of the sailboat or powerboat show are pretty slim. The public docks on the show side are used to display the boats. The harbor in Annapolis disappears as you will literally be walking on water for 80% of the show. But, the most amazing spectacle of all is Sunday night when the the harbor turns from boats and docks back to water again. If you've never seen it your really should stay late on Sunday. You are better off driving a car and parking at Navy Marine Corp Memorial Stadium and riding the bus down to the docks. Bert |

You do have
charts for this trip, right? And know how to use them? Yes Wayne, I did purchase a set of charts last year at the boat show. I traveled by car for that show. To be quite honest though this will be the first time I have needed to boat by charts. Because nearly all of my boating experience has been lake boating, and very deep lakes at that, where there really is no concern of running aground, or needing to stay within a channel. I do have a GPS unit, and am fairly competent in its use. As long as the weather is nice, and I take it slow and easy, I hope to be okay. Mike Howard |

You should be able to anchor off and call a water taxi, but not certain.
That run is very nice in good weather. The area around the bridge gets real rough when the wind gets up, though. I'd say make sure you have provisions aboard to stay overnight if called for. Good luck! Dave "SrScubalot" wrote in message ... Your chances of finding a slip or mooring in Annapolis the weekend of the sailboat or powerboat show are pretty slim. You will have no problems, it is really easy to navigate there. Basically
you cannot get lost. You can get up to Baltimore and down near Annapolis there are a few marinas to tie up to. There is a state park right on the west side of the Chesapeake Bridge. They allowed my friend to hook up there one night but one night only, n/c. In Annapolis you will find balls or hook ups everywhere. Just watch out for the crab floats everywhere. I heard somewhere you were allowed to empty out three traps per day for yourself for personal eating. I don't know if that is accurate but everyone I talked to there said the same thing, no one will bother you if you only empty out no more than 3 or 4 traps. What a nice area, fishing was not so great but the crabbing is good. Bring a big steal pot and lots of butter. "SrScubalot" wrote in message ... You do have charts for this trip, right?
