Default Finally! a local station has straight gas!

In the world of Ethanol and E-85, I've been concerned about the use
thereof in 2 cycle outboards, which though I don't have one at the
moment, I'm more concerned for my weed-eaters and chainsaws.

Now the station down the street from me has a dedicated pump for 100%
petroleum gasoline with no alcohol. It costs about .20c. more per
gallon, but at least it's available locally. And that's really good
to know seeing fall and winter is coming up. When you cut up about 10
+ car trailer loads of wood, it's comforting to know that I would be
burning up a $1000.00 Stihl or Dolmar chainsaw.

And seeing I got rid of my pontoon, I've got my eyes set on a good
sized Jon boat for running the Wabash river, that is. *IF* It ever
gets enough water in it to float a boat. LOL!

Wayne and Harry just got through telling me the ethanol scare is a
scam.

Well, modern oils/stabilizers can protect an engines cylinders up to a
point. Now when the ethanol level is blended 15% ( or more) then
that's pushing the safety point for the oil/gas mix ratio.

I'd rather be safe than sorry.

granted it wasn't an expensive saw,but I've burned up a couple weed
eaters and a Poulan /Chraftsman chain saw not because it wasn't a
wrong oil ratio, but because I got ahold of some gas that had a 20%
ethanol blend.

The saw ran hot and was losing power then quit. Went to start it and
was low on compression. I pulled the muffler and saw the piston was
badly scored. Same with the Weed eater. Both shared the same fuel.

=====

My comments apply only to the fuel injected engines in our Honda and
Toyota vehicles. I've had plenty of problems with ethanol in small
carbureted 4 strokes.

I run a 50/50 mix of 100LL AVGAS and 93 Octane E10 pump gas in my
2-stroke OPE and they run great. The 2-stroke oil I use has a fuel
stabilizer in it as well. A friend of mine is a pilot who lives on one
of those private airstrips and keeps 1000 gallons of AVGAS in a tank at
his house. Local airports might sell it to the guy with the red can,
too. Don't ever use it in your car or your catalytic converter will
have a stroke!
