I think there should be a 10-day wait for any firearm purchase, and that the sale of fully auto firearms be prohibited to civilians. The number of class III weapons was frozen in 1986 (Reagan) so there have been no new machine guns sold to the public since then. The gandfathered ones are "property" and protected by the 5th and 6th amendments, even if you take the Bloomburg spin on the 2d. Are you really advocating a "taking"? The fact that the machine guns sold are not new is not relevant. Any decent smith can restore a used firearm in reasonable shape to "as new" condition. Yes, I believe civilian possession of automatic firearms ought be be illegal. I also can't think of a reason to allow 30 round or larger mags/clips for semi-auto assault style rifles. I suppose it is fun to pretend you're a boy soldier in Afghanistan, and carrying a rifle that looks like theirs, but most of them aren't so hot for hunting or target practice. I know this because I have hunter friends who take their "sport" seriously and I've asked them about this. In fact, I doubt most of those semi-auto assault rifles or their owners will outshoot for accuracy my .22LR target rifle, and it looks like an ordinary rifle. Its mags only hold 5 or 10 rounds. I've got one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ayGk8KaN58 I wasn't aware that our Right to own and bear arms had to meet with your or anybody else's deciding what I could have. I've got a bunch of magazines for 20 rounds and more. I might need them if you and yours decide to assault us and take them. I had a Romanian AK-47 (wasr-10) with a mag032 -75 round drum magazine. It was a pain to load and cool though a bit inconvenient, but it was a crowd pleaser at the rifle range. I ended up selling the rifle, drum and two 30 rd. clips to a local deputy sheriff. |

I'd love to read about how you tried and failed to hold off the authorities. One less bat**** crazy rightie, eh? |

Shoot your rim fire .22 at 500 yards for 20% of your score and tell us if you even hit the target. Make sure you use iron sights. |

As a kid I shot pennies at 50 60 yards with a single shot Springfield with about 26 in barrel. The extraa barrel length didn't help anything. Still about 2 out 3 shots was all I could hit the pennies. Long range work is a Weatherby .30-378 with a variety of weight bullets. The little 110 grain sizzles out at about 4100 fps hand loaded. 1160 grain boattails at about 3700 fps reach right out there further than the heavy 220 grains. If in to rainbow shooting though the 220s can reach well over a mile. I want a Barett. here is no reason to hold the 600 grain or even 750 grain bullet down to 30-06 levels. Ain't about th shoot anyone. The way things are going is down right scary and really don't know what to expect from the coalition of fringes in Washington. |

I have no expectation of holding off sworn/uniformed mounties with any of my firearms. If they show up at my door and say "Come out with your hands up," that is exactly what I will do. I have the wherewithal to post a substantial bond and to pay my lawyers. You have to be an imbecile to think you are going to hold off a police or quasi military force. Wait, I just answered the question of "what do you have to be to use your firearms to hold off a police or military force?" Answer: an imbecile. I'd prefer a day in court to a day in the funeral parlor but, hey, to each his own. Nowadays, I just shoot firearms for kicks at the range and at various homemade targets. Through that sort of use and a half dozen training courses, I feel competent to take down any criminal element home invaders who bust into the house. |
