Slickly done marketing fluff... with zero technical details and glossing over some MAJOR stuff.

Hope they get the funding they're looking for. Along with ramping up generation, we need to do something. I want to wash my clothes amd take a hot shower... when I want, not when some gov drone lets me.

What a moron.

You are promoting marketing fluff and he is a moron?

"Marketing fluff"? What data in that site do you disagree with and why?

The document you provided a link to is nothing more than a vision
statement. There are no specifics, plans or time-lines.

It is a document to encourage early investment.

Exactly what in the document do you refute and why? Be specific.

Some highlights of what the smart grid will offer:

Self healing in that it will detect issues and take corrective action
instead of waiting until part of the grid fails, then needing human
interaction to fix it.

Utilize many energy resources using plug and play technology and (GASP!)
focus on using renewable sources efficiently and seamlessly.

Easily integrate wholesale markets which will then lead to the growth of
new electricity wholesale markets.

Resilient to attack and natural disasters with rapid restoration
capabilities.

Smart grid is a new avenue to attack the power co/citizens and enables them to commit
fraud upon their customers. Expect a major lawsuit in the near future, when the $$
maximize ROI for such an action.

As an engineer, I know where the skeletons are hidden. These meters may be calibrated,
but only accurately measure power consumed or returned, if programmed to do so.

P.S. I refused the installation of a so-called smart meter and smartly kept my old analog
meter.

Smart meters isn't a smart grid system.

Quote one verifiable data point in the article. Hell man, the freakin' title of the document is "A Vision for the Smart Grid". Vision. Fluff.

Here's an example:
"And finally, the Smart Grid will operate resiliently against attack and natural disaster. It will incorporate a system-wide solution that reduces physical and cyber vulnerabilities and enables a rapid recovery from disruptions. Its resilience will create an image that intimidates would-be attackers.. It will also be less vulnerable to natural disasters."

Precisely how will it be resilient, enable rapid recovery, and be intimidating to would-be attackers? With "a system-wide solution". snerk It is full of that type of pie-in-the-sky fluff meant to sell the idea to non-technical people. Completely non-technical, non-specific, marketing fluff. Nothing in there can be verified because there are no specifics, and that's on purpose.

Tell me you aren't that gullible.

Oh, never mind.

It is a key element of the smart grid vision.

"Smart meter initiatives around the country in recent years have proven the concept. They are cost-effective and maximize energy efficiency, leading many governments to mandate advanced metering. Today a small fraction of U.S.. meters are smart, but the segment is expected to grow between 15 percent and 20 percent annually."

------------------------------------------------
We have smart meters here. Most people do not like them as their power
bills went up 20-30%. I think the reason the utilities love them is it
calculates power usage better. With all the cell phone and computer low
voltage transformers in a house the power factor is wrong for great billing.
The power passes without being registered as a big percentage is mostly
inductive and the power factor designed in to a standard meter will not
record a lot of the energy used.

You can't refute opinion and marketing fluff until there is a real
product.

The SMART Grid is a vision and as of now it is an undefined and
unobtainable vision.
