Through FB, I've been able to re-connect with dozens of people I've known over the decades and meet some new people, too, including actual boaters from all around the world, and I've hooked up with a couple of SIGs that have some really funny stuff, travel info, food, et cetera, and all this without any of the right-wing assholes who have destroyed rec.boats. You are willingly giving FB what they seek, relationships. They really don't care about you playing Farmville and Mafia Wars they want to know who you chat with about Farmvill and Mafia Wars. What you don't understand is that the fact that you exist isn't interesting to FB. The fact that you tell them that you know someone is what they are looking for. Black helicopters! |

I don't play Farmville or Mafia Wars or any other FB games, nor do I use any FB "apps," and I have only "liked" a couple of restaurants of which I have personal knowledge. I've set up as much FB privacy as is allowed, and I restrict those who can see my posts directly to a relatively short list of friends, most of whom I have known personally for decades. Does it matter to me that FB knows that I know Judy from high school or Joe from college? No. You haven't got a clue about how FB and Google use information. Or Apple. |

That ship sailed when they started putting pictures on driver's licenses. These days Home Depot has your face, tied to your credit card number Indeed. I returned something to HD my wife bought on line because she didn't like it. The return desk has a digicam there, taking snaps of everyone who comes to the store to return something. I imagine the fraud department gets a good look at everyone returning things. Yeah, probably millions per day, and they check every single one against a picture...... |

It's really scary to me that FB knows my Yankee friends and I like and frequent and buy from NYC food joints like: Russ & Daughters http://www.russanddaughters.com/ Katz's Deli http://katzsdelicatessen.com/ Barney Greengrass http://www.barneygreengrass.com/ And, don't tell anyone, but on our trips to NYC, we usually take the Amtrak, and we talk about train travel right out in the open in FB. Shhhhh. |
