I've never met another person who thought this country was 'blech' for the most part. North Dakota can get pretty boring too if you just drive 80 looking out the window. You have to get out and look around. http://gfretwell.com/ftp/dakota/ND%20badlands.jpg 'xactly. Salmonbait -- 'Name-calling'...the liberals' last resort. |

This is your vacation. Get off the extra few bucks and fly first class. They don't screw with you about your bags, you have a quick line through ticketing and security and they treat you a lot nicer on the plane. Oh and you can change your ticket or even get your money back. It is like what flying used to be 40 years ago, inflation adjusted, about the same price. I used to fly several times a week. On occasion I got bumped to FC. To me, it isn't worth the extra cost. Flying ain't what it used to be. I dread the prospect of ever having to fly again. But, of course, to each his own. That's what I've been preaching to Harry lately. Whether first class or coach, I hate flying. During a one-year assignment to Korea I made the round trip four times. That's enough. We pack pretty heavy and it is nice not having to worry about heavy bag fees, too many bag fees etc. I take a big duffel bag and a cooler, my wife takes 2 bags. Coming home we might have 1 or 2 more "something" I don't need a cooler. I bring a full size residential style refrigerator with me when I travel and we have an 8 ft long full sized closet. To each his own. ;-) |

It takes a long day's drive, just to get out of Florida. I am 650 miles from the Alabama state line. Going straight north to Georgia is well over 300. It's not the destination, it's the journey, is the way I look at it. Using your example, I might stop at Sarasota, Tampa/Clearwater, look up Frogwatch, Destin, Pensacola, gulf beaches, on my way to the Alabama state line. Or if you were heading to Georgia you might want to visit some theme parks and St Augustine along the way. But to each his own. Right? |

Right? ----------------------------------------------- One of my most memorable trips was an impulsive drive from MA to Denver Colorado to pickup a vintage '55 Ford F-100 that a guy had for sale. I drove the F-350 diesel I had at the time towing a car trailer. Travelled alone, lots of things to see and time to reflect on stuff in general. Great trip. I think I turned the steering wheel very slightly two or three times while in Nebraska. |
