"Meyer" wrote in message eb.com... It's not the destination, it's the journey, is the way I look at it. Using your example, I might stop at Sarasota, Tampa/Clearwater, look up Frogwatch, Destin, Pensacola, gulf beaches, on my way to the Alabama state line. Or if you were heading to Georgia you might want to visit some theme parks and St Augustine along the way. But to each his own. Right? ----------------------------------------------- One of my most memorable trips was an impulsive drive from MA to Denver Colorado to pickup a vintage '55 Ford F-100 that a guy had for sale. I drove the F-350 diesel I had at the time towing a car trailer. Travelled alone, lots of things to see and time to reflect on stuff in general. Great trip. I think I turned the steering wheel very slightly two or three times while in Nebraska. One late night at the KC Star, we got a minor bulletin over The AP wire stating the U.S. Army had lost an entire column of troops and gear somewhere between southern Nebraska and northern Kansas. They were "found" a few hours later. |

We pack pretty heavy and it is nice not having to worry about heavy bag fees, too many bag fees etc. I take a big duffel bag and a cooler, my wife takes 2 bags. Coming home we might have 1 or 2 more "something" I don't need a cooler. I bring a full size residential style refrigerator with me when I travel and we have an 8 ft long full sized closet. To each his own. ;-) If I was going on vacation within a day's drive, I would but when I am going out west I do not want to be driving for 4 or 5 days each way. It takes a long day's drive, just to get out of Florida. I am 650 miles from the Alabama state line. Going straight north to Georgia is well over 300. Your time is valuable to you. Mired's time is worthless. "Mired" has the time and where with all to enjoy life. Apparently Krausie does not. |

We like to see new places Can't find new places if you fly over top of them. You can't see them on the interstate at 80 on the ground either. That is why we pick a state or two and spend 2-3 weeks there. Things are far enough apart, even then. I love to travel by car when I have the time. Most people think of going from PA to FL as being on I-95, I don't. I don't know how many times I've made the trip on how many different routes. All of them very enjoyable to me. I've got a meeting in Philly coming up this fall. It's only for a few days and I won't have the time to go wandering before or after the meeting. Been to Philly many times; my dad was born there, and lived in Elkins Park. Later, the family moved to Massachusetts. Anyway, I'm sure I'll go up there and back on Amtrak. You need to get the Dr. Dr. to squeeze a little R and R time into her schedule. She needs to take into account that you're on your last legs and don't have the 30-40 years left that she does. |

In article om, says... (Snip) It's not the destination, it's the journey, is the way I look at it. As Cunard used to say: "Getting there is half the fun." Also, great book, "The Only Way To Cross." I'd rather *be* in Europe, Hawaii, or South America than wasting days *getting* to Europe, or Hawaii, or South America. |
