Great trip but I, also, would have trouble being on a plane that long. In our first trip to Hawaii, before 9/11, we flew on a one stop from DC to Minneapolis to Honolulu, and the only aspect that made it tolerable was that we could walk around the plane and "gather" and stand around at the rear of the cabin with the cabin attendants and talk with everyone. We brought our own snacks and drinks and nobody gave a damn about it. Hell, I brought a soft-sided cooler aboard. It was a pretty jolly flight. Our second trip was a couple of years ago, and the flight was grim, grim, grim because of the changes brought about by 9-11. Damn Christians! Oh, wait, it was *Muslim* terrorists, wasn't it? Salmonbait -- 'Name-calling'...the liberals' last resort. Can you imagine folks gathering around to chat with Krausie, on a plane? Neither can I. ;-) He may have been one of those guys who would come back to the smoking section 'cause we were having such a good time. Generally we treated them poorly. I do remember, however, from previous flights the stench you assholes created in the planes. I'm glad you had a great time playing around with carcinogens and, of course, there's always the decent chance they'll come back to haunt you. |

... Wife and I have flown around the world a couple of times mostly on Pan Am's Flight 1 and 2 but with side trips on local carriers. What a marvelous feeling it was to be at the airport in New Delhi and see that big blue and white plane come in and know we were home though still a zillion miles from home. Wife used to carry knitting needles, scissors, ect., and do alot of needlepoint and knitting along the way. Always a good conversation maker with crew and other passengers. But that was all pre-9/11. We don't do that anymore. ----------------------- You can still bring knitting needles and crochet hooks aboard and small scissors. My wife brought Crochet along on this trip. Takes her knitting on a lot of trips also. Pan Am was good airline to fly most of the time. I used to take a Pan Am 747 SP to Hong Kong, business class during the 80's. First trip was only 125 on board plane and I went back to coach and had 5 seats across to take about a 7 hour sleep on the trip. Problem these days is they have jacked the Business class price absurdly! Used to be an about 50% kicker. Now a 4+ times kicker. We could upgrade our $1780 coach ticket to Business for an extra $5800. |

If we go again, it'll be with a stopover on the Left Coast, a night in a hotel, and continuation the next day. My wife wants to go to New Zealand but I think I would have to make that a 3 leg trip maybe walking around for a day or two on the left coast and again in Hawaii -------------------- That trip is short listed. Probably SFO to Tahiti then to NZ. Then probably to OZ then back via Hawaii. Trying to cash in American Airlines miles for Business class tickets, but seems to be impossible. |

It seems like American Airlines has gotten a lot more restrictive lately on what you can and cannot do with "miles." |
