How about you people? Took a couple boat trips on my latest vacation. Best
trips were the Chobe River game viewing from Chobe Safari lodge http://www.chobesafarilodge.com/ . Evening and morning trips. Saw lots of Hippos, elephants, and a pride of lions, as well as Nile Crocs and baboons. Worst trip was on the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls where we saw a couple hippo and listened to fascinating story of Livingston and we could have heard on land, and spent more time looking for game and birds. Being from the San Francisco area and having lots of seals and sea lions around and Cape Fur Seal viewing trip in Cape Town was interesting, but not exciting like a lot of the people thought. Other boat was to Robben Island Cape Town and the tour by a former political prisoner. Trip was great, but boat was just a catamaran ferry. |

Best is a video of an elephant sneaking up on us to charge us. Female either pregnant or PMS according to the guide. |

Just a little cruise down the river Same here, got out last Sunday, but this weekend will be cool and rainy. Very cool vacation, but I could never get my wife on a plane for that long of a flight. |

Very cool vacation, but I could never get my wife on a plane for that long of a flight. ----------------- My wife used sleeping pills. Going we spent the night at Dulles and then the 8500 mile trip with a stop in Dakar for an hour. Coming home was about 40 hours in airports and airplanes. Travel agent routing sucked. Cape town to Johannesburg to Dakar to Washington DC to LAX to Oakland. And then 45 minutes filling out lost luggage claim. Did not make the plane in LAX, delivered next day. 2 to 6 hour layovers along the way. About 12,000 miles flying. Looking at the map, I would do it different if I went back. SFO to GRU, then a few days then GRU to Jo'burg. Same return timing. Then you only have an 8-10 hour flight with a nice break in the middle. |

Did not make the plane in LAX, It is interesting that your bags made it half way around the world without a hitch and got lost right down the road from you. Great trip but I, also, would have trouble being on a plane that long. In our first trip to Hawaii, before 9/11, we flew on a one stop from DC to Minneapolis to Honolulu, and the only aspect that made it tolerable was that we could walk around the plane and "gather" and stand around at the rear of the cabin with the cabin attendants and talk with everyone. We brought our own snacks and drinks and nobody gave a damn about it. Hell, I brought a soft-sided cooler aboard. It was a pretty jolly flight. Our second trip was a couple of years ago, and the flight was grim, grim, grim because of the changes brought about by 9-11. If we go again, it'll be with a stopover on the Left Coast, a night in a hotel, and continuation the next day. Most people have sense enough to do that. Actually stopping over a few nights in SF might even be better. |
