I don't make this **** up, even if you don't like the way I present it. You ignorant little ****, do you even read what you post before you post it and then claim "facts" not in play? From your article: Local law enforcement face ammo shortage as gun owners, DHS stock up Published March 23, 2013 | FoxNews.com Local law enforcement agencies across the country are facing an ammo shortage, as gun owners concerned about new laws at the federal and state level stock up on firearms and bullets. At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security has said it *wants* to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years -- which could put further strain on the supply. The shortage, coupled with an increase in prices, comes as many gun owners head to the stores in anticipation of new gun control laws. States like Colorado and New York have already approved such legislation, while Democrats move toward bringing a bill to the Senate floor. At the moment, the congressional bill does not include an assault-weapons ban, but a ban is expected to be floated as an amendment. Still, what one official described as "panic-buying" set in, as lawmakers rallied to draft new legislation in the wake of a series of tragic mass shootings last year, from Aurora, Colo., to Oak Creek, Wis., to Newtown, Conn. ------ The shortage is being cause by "panic buying" by gun nuts, not by mass purchases of ammo by a federal agency. There are dozens and dozens of calibers used in firearms and within those categories of dozens of different varieties. DHS is only intending to buy ammo in a couple of these categories, and has no use for ammo in most of the calibers available. Ammo *is* in short supply, an artificial situation caused by gun owners and ammo manufactuers, the former because they are just plain stupid sheeples and the latter because they see a way to make extra bucks. Who is a stupid sheeple? Your buddy Herring, for one, who apparently drives over to Wal-Mart every morning to see if he can buy five more boxes of ammo. If the DHS wants to buy a boatload of ammo over the next five years, it will contract directly with the manufacturers, and the manufacturers who get the contracts will ramp up production of the calibers the agency wants. There is no shortage of ammo manufacturers willing to suck on the government's teat for five years. So you think it's stupid for citizens to stockpile ammo? How many cases are you storing? The whole thing is because I said DHS had 1.6b round on order including hollow points (never said all hollow points), and posted an article that supported what I said. Dick and harry loogie and don are just doing what they do.... I wouldn't lump Eisboch together with those head cases. Well, if he keep doing the "loogie" on my posts... Yeah, damned anybody who actually posts truths and facts as opposed to your insane bull**** and lies. |

The bulk of ammo used by private citizens are for hobby shooting at a range or for hunting. A massive stockpile of ammo isn't needed those activities or hobbies. This shortage will pass once the hysteria being promoted by the ultra-right media dies down. ======= I agree that the hysteria will eventually pass but it's going to take longer than we'd like. It's not just the right wing media that's a problem however - the mainstream media is full of stories about "huge ammunition caches of 1700 rounds" and that sort of thing. To a serious target shooter 1700 rounds is about a two or three week supply, maybe less, and they are probably buying in case lots. And then we have "our president" going on mainstream media making emotional appeals for more and more controls. It's not rocket science or paranoia to deduce that he'd really like to ban privately owned guns and ammo altogether. |

I think he reads the headlines only, not the article. It is embarrassing that Scotty even claims to have graduated from a high school in Connecticut. ======================= What really surprises me is the number of reasonably well educated people (meaning they should be able to read and comprehend) who share Scott's paranoia regarding guns and ammo shortages. Not all, but some people I talk to or meet when I go to the range talk the same talk and some are lawyers or other educated professionals. There are a few obvious "preppers" here and there, but not many. Most of the conversations center on types of firearms, experiences with them, likes and dislikes, etc., but I am still surprised at the number of people who think the government is plotting to take away their right to own a gun. We went through all that when a previous Liberal Gov't brought in long arm registration a number of years ago. We already had fairly restrictive handgun controls. People pointed to Australia.. claimed that the gov't was going to first force us to register and then take our firearms. I registered and I still have my 20 ga shotgun and my 22 cal semi-auto rifle with 6x scope. Our current Conservative govt just abolished the firearm registry last year. Handguns are still heavily restricted, of course. Canadians and Canadian gun laws are far more rational than Americans and American gun laws. We do have our share of wackos... burying rifles and shotguns in the backyard so the gov't can't get them. It all calmed down after most people realized the sky wasn't falling. i was mostly concerned with what they were going to charge the gun owner for registering... at first it was $50. for 5 years and then dropped to 410 to encourage people to sign up. At the 5 year mark it was free to renew.. BUT.. I had to get the wife to sign my application saying she was ok with me having guns. That would probably sink half the righties in here. |

I don't make this **** up, even if you don't like the way I present it. You ignorant little ****, do you even read what you post before you post it and then claim "facts" not in play? --------------------------------------------------------- Last week my favorite gun shop was totally sold out of .380 ammo and I had used up almost all I had at the range. They said they had more coming in this past Wednesday, so yesterday I stopped in to check. They had some, but all they could get was premium "law enforcement" hollowpoints at $39 for a box of 50. So much for DHS buying up all the ammo and "causing" the shortage. Where exactly did I say "DHS buying up and *causing*..."? Here is my post, see if you can follow it ![]() Why do you think DHS is buying up all of the ammo, some 1.6 billion with a B rounds as well as armored vehicles, drones, and other hardware until now thought of as military gear, not "peace officer" gear? Just so you don't "loogie" me... What I was complaining about was a domestic org, buying military type ammo and armaments... I posted one link of hundreds... You have gone off on some kind of tangent on something I never said... But you and harry have admittedly had a blast, keep forgetting why you said you were here... LOL! "buying up all the ammo". Bull****. |

wrote: I said DHS was buying 1.6 billion rounds ==== Probably true, but it's probably not a cause for alarm either. It is highly improbable that they are doing it to dry up the supply or some other nefarious goal. DHS takes in a lot of territory and a lot of armed personnel - USCG, US Customs & Border Patrol, FBI, Secret Service, BATF, TSA, etc. My guess would be several hundred thousand armed employees. That many people can burn through a huge amount of ammo in training and practice. I've been anchored a few times within hearing distance of the NYPD range in the Bronx. Over the course of a day it sounds like there is a major war going on, including automatic weapons fire. That's from less than a couple of hundred cops at any given time. |
