of you when you are

driving down the road. Mine has a 156 ince wheel base and I can do
a 3 point turn in my two

car driveway. Whenever I go somewhere I do stratigic parking, park
out where nobody is.



I've also noticed how courteous drivers have become since I got the
Silverado. It's a remarkable

transformation. I had no idea my purchase of a big pickup would
improve the manners of such a great

many people!

Funny... I've notice that people react to the Corvette in different
ways. One of the most aggressive reactions is from guys in pickups!
They want to race me for some reason. Crazy. Young guys in Mustangs
tend to leave me alone :-)

Yeah, and they still have the best "retro remake" in my opinion...

The newer Mustangs, at least the "GT" models, are great for short people
with well-padded butts. They ride very hard. The "regular" non-GT
Mustangs are very popular down here in Southern Maryland with high
school girls and recent grads. Yellow is a favorite color of the girly
girl set. Nice looking cars, though.

I like the old cars, too. I'm old enough to remember when many of the
pre and post WWII cars were still on the road, and not as restored
antiques. My grandfather, my mother's father, had a 1939 two door Ford
that I think looked exactly like this:

The Lightning was a cool truck. However, the only place it could perhaps "kill" some Porsches was at a drag strip. A Porsche isn't made to just go fast in a straight line, it can turn and stop, too. Put one of each on a road race track, and the poor Lightning would be lapped in no time.

I imagine that the Lightning is (was) a lot of fun to drive and being
supercharged, it is (was) fast. But to describe it as a "Porsche
eater" is a bit of a stretch.

I was hung up on BMWs for a while and between Mrs.E. and I, we had 6
of them, including two of the 500 hp M5 models. But BMW became too
dependent on computer controlled operation with flakey software. The
two M5s I had were in the shop for software updates and modifications
on a regular basis. The second one was supposed to be "bug free",
but unfortunately that wasn't the case. They were fast cars and
handled decently ... top end was actually a bit higher than the
Porsche .... but who the hell is going to drive 215 mph?

I finally got tired of all the software glitches and got the Porsche
911 TT instead. No goofy electronics. No software controls. Just a
450 hp twin turbocharged engine that drove the wheels through a 6
speed manual transmission. It was all wheel drive, so it didn't
suffer from having the rear end of the car come around to the front
like the older ones sometimes did when accelerating in a turn. It
was a rocket. Sweet spot began at 3000 rpm. Nail it there in any
gear (but especially 2nd or 3rd) and it would just accelerate at a
mind blowing pace .... and it didn't stop until you chickened out and
let up on the throttle. No "running out of air" or "valve float" or
any nonsense like that. Just pure acceleration. But the best part
was that it felt just as much like a high performance sports car at
30-40 mph on winding roads as it did at over 125 mph (which I only did
once). Car always felt like it was on a set of rails and never felt
unsafe.
