I'd be interested in discussing what the requirments are to be hired as a
captain to move vessels up and down the east coast. I'm currently beginning to plan for a retirement/2nd career. It occuurred to me while attending one of the local boat shows, that somebody has to move the larger yatchs from Florida up north to the shows and then back again - if unsold. Also, there must be lots of wealthy individulas who own large boats in the Northeast that pay to have them brought south for the winter months and then back up north again. What type of Captrain's license is required and who do you approach to find employment in this field? Also be curious to know what type of pay is involved. TIA, Sandy K. |

Subject: 2nd Career Moving Boats??
From: "Sandy K." What type of Captrain's license is required and who do you approach to find employment in this field? At least a "6 pack" license. Better yet a 100 ton masters. Also be curious to know what type of pay is involved. Depends on the size of the boat. But $200 - $350 a day is in the ball park. You will be fighting a bit of an up hill battle as there are quite a number of folks who are either doing this or trying to get to do this. And many times it a who you know not a what you know kind of deal. Capt. Bill Capt. Bill |

A friend of mine used to do deliveries.
Ontario...down ICW to Virgin Islands.....from Carribean to Ireland, from Carribean to Azores etc Believe he charged $ 1500.00 US per week plus expenses. He also arranged for a minimal crew to help. I had a chance to go on one...but work got in the way. Sandy K. wrote in message ...
