Mr. Luddite August 13th 14 07:01 PM

Weather

Not much of a weather event here, despite all the alerts and forecasts.
Rained off and on but nothing extraordinary heavy. Cool and breezy
now. Radar indicates maybe an hour or two left of showers, then clearing.

Days like today make me envious of Wayne and his wife. I used to love
being on the boat on days like this, either at the slip or sometimes I'd
move out to a mooring. Just enough wind to rock the boat for a nice
afternoon nap and cool enough to not require running the A/C.

So sorry to hear you slipped and fell into the creek. Perhaps it wasn't
meant for you to be near water or boats.

I was watching it on the weather channel radar and it looked like a
regular afternoon shower here. I guess those folks up are shocked when
they get 3 or 4 inches of rain in a few hours.
I remember when Agnes came through Maryland in the 70s, I did not
think it was that big a deal driving home but when I got to Clinton,
there were roads closed and a foot and a half of water flowing across
the street to my house.
I ended up having to park my car at the shop and rob at the end of the
street and walk home along the ridge above the flood. The storm drains
were simply not designed to take away that much water.
Being smart enough to buy a house at the top of the hill, we were
unaffected but there were a couple who did get water

I watched this storm on Internet radar as it moved up the coast. Long
Island got clobbered with the Islip area getting 11-12 inches of rain in
7 hours.

As it moved further north it seemed to split into two halves. Our area
ended up in the middle of the two major precipitation areas, so we
didn't get anything unusual.

I meant ... did you take your boat down the ICW (or off shore) to Hilton
Head from the Chesapeake Bay?
