The coldest two winters of my life were spent at Great Lakes Naval
Training Center.

Cape May in February was pretty cold too.

My brother spent 3 summers in the Antarctic as a SeaBee. Said it got -70f
during summer storms. They could not drive the snowcats as the tracks
would break due to cold. Winter, the Russians had the alcohol thermometer
freeze at -125. Coldest I think I ever felt was a bright sunny day at the
1960 Winter Olympics. Did not have warm snow boots and was about 5F. Have
been in colder weather, but better equipped.

We spent a few days at Squaw Valley but it was summer time.
We were are the Squaw Valley Creek resort, nice place but parking is a
PITA.

Is a nice area. Wife does not want to ski anymore, so we don't. We have
friends who have Tahoe cabins, so do get up in the area. We take the boat
up sometimes. But expensive for one or two trips. They have a quagga
mussel sticker and inspections. Adds cost. Mostly fishing and picnic on
the island in Emerald Bay.

We were not really that happy with our Tahoe leg. I would have stayed
at Mammoth if it was me. Traffic was horrible trying to get around the
lake. We went in around the west side and out to the east and down
through Carson City. Both sucked.

Originally we were going out of Reno but a last minute call put in a
side trip to LaJolla and out LAX.
Long drive.

Our friends cabin are on are west Side. 1/2 and 3/4 way down. So not as
much traffic. We come in over highway 89 and us 50 most of the time.

Leaves? IMO where they land is where they stay.

I have a couple Liquid Amber trees and Black Alder trees, beside the fruit
trees, so have to blow and vacuum the leaves. Especially in the back yard,
as they screw up the pool chemicals.

Starter froze up at -30? I can appreciate that...

I was guessing that the battery froze. You're right, may have been the
starter. One thing was for sure, it was not a happy car. Neither was I!

We had a "pot luck" Thanksgiving lunch today at work. Our Commons area
has seating both inside and out. We filled the outdoor tables; it was
77 degrees here today. It's supposed to be 29 degrees Saturday morning. Damn vortex.

Played golf today. Temp in the mid-60's, sunny, bit windy, but
gorgeous day.

Now no more golf for six weeks. That sucks!

Tooth implant this morning. So sitting in my family room, wood stove
going. Supposed to rain today and tomorrow. Nice out now, sunny and cold
65.

Today we're 20 degrees cooler. Have to blow leaves. Hate that job.

I bought the equivalent model of one of these three years ago.

http://www.redmax.com/products/blowers/ebz8500/

Make the job relatively wuick and painless. However, I have over 2 acres, and most of it is covered with huge red oak trees. Lots of leaves! That model is overkill for a "normal" lot.

I had a walk behind, but I traded it for a hand held... When I was
growing up we had 22 oaks and several white pines, all tucked in on one
half acre. Now we are down to two pines and 10 oaks. Unfortunately my
dad bought the downhill side of the street so every inch of it is
raking/blowing, up hill to the street. We do have pickup here in town,
no bags, just put the piles on the side of the road.

I just blow them off the grass into the natural areas, or what some might call the woods. :-)

We spend enough effort and money on the grass in the summer that it's worth the effort to take care of it in the winter.
