Swede Mauser is a great rifle but if you really want something that nobody else seems to have, go for a Schmidt-Rubin 'straight pull' I love mine! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sj3a62x-DFA very nice -- Just because you are opposed to abortion doesn’t make you pro-life. Your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed, not a child clothed, not a child able to see the doctor. That’s not pro-life…that’s pro-birth. |

You can cut it with paint or lacquer thinner but most of the removal is mechanical. If you use a solvent, you need to get a protecting coat of oil back on it right away. We had to bring a couple of 1911s back from this mummification on the ship. We detail stripped them, wiped off all we could and dunked the metal parts in a bucket of thinner over night. They came out like new. One of the GM3s stripped the grease off a set of the walnut stocks and refinished them with linseed oil. They came out pretty nice. A four foot chunk of pvc capped at one end and filled with mineral spirits might do the job. Now I just can't wait to get to Wal Mart to buy a gallon of mineral spirits. Gasoline would work and it is a lot cheaper. Toss in a bottle or 2 of isopropyl alcohol and you have Gun Scrubber like the guy was talking about in the video. Well, I've already got the gas. Maybe I've even got the alcohol. We'll see. Hate to miss out on a trip to Wal Mart. But, now I've got a root canal scheduled for tomorrow, so may miss out anyway. I'm thinking that since this gun will be a gift, maybe I should let the cleaning thereof be part of same. |

Mine came with all the stuff with the excpetion of a sling. I ordered one last week and it arrived yesterday so now my weapon is complete. For the record the hard sights on the weapon are ranged out to 300 yards. Below that distance they will shoot high. It is a fun weapon to shoot.

Siince it is a gift I hope you will post how the giftee likes the gift. I bought a Mosin Nagant last year and I have now shot it a couple of times. What is the year of the one you purchased. Mine was manufactured in 1939. My research on the weapon led me to purchase one manufactured prior to the German invasion in June of 1941. Prior to the invasion they were well built weapons. After the invasion they were produced as fast as possible and the quality level declined. Mine came with all the stuff with the excpetion of a sling. He and a couple buddies, all certified NRA instructors, are just starting it up. They don't even have a decent web page yet, but are getting business from Facebook friends. |
