Reacting to five members of the St. Louis Rams coming onto the field
for
Sunday’s game displaying the ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ gesture, a St.
Louis police officers fraternal organization is demanding the team
discipline the players, and that the team and league issue a formal
apology, reports KSDK.

In a statement released Sunday evening, the St. Louis Police Officers
Association condemned the display, calling it “tasteless, offensive and
inflammatory.”

Prior to player introductions before Sunday’s game, five players —
Stedman Bailey, Tavon Austin, Jared Cook, Chris Givens, and Kenny Britt
— came out onto the field first with their hands in the air prior to
being joined by their teammates.

Responding to the display, the statement reads, “The St. Louis Police
Officers Association is profoundly disappointed with the members of the
St. Louis Rams football team who chose to ignore the mountains of
evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury this week and
engage in a display that police officers around the nation found
tasteless, offensive and inflammatory.”

* * * *

What is tasteless, offensive and inflammatory is the number of
incidents
in which police beat up, shoot, and kill unarmed civilians.

Well, I think you should probably figure that a high percentage of
those unarmed citizens are guilty of breaking some law, then when the
police try to arrest them the fight. You can be sure the police kill in
self defense a very low percentage of those that fight, and then of that
low percentage a tiny percentage might have been killed and it was
wrong. If you don't fight a policeman, your odds of being killed are
very, very, very, very tiny. That's a big clue.

The bigger problem, 13% of the population murder as many as the other
87%. That 13% is the black population, if you could fix that...

Mikek

Interesting that in other modern nations like England, Germany, Japan,
et cetera, the police there hardly ever kill anyone.

I wonder if the "population" has more respect for the authority of
the police in those countries.
Mikek

Perhaps the police in those countries are not so "shoot 'em" happy.

Just a quick look at UK, the place where street cops don't carry guns,
most of the population is banned from having them and the biggest
cause of "on duty" police death, after motor vehicles, is being shot.

*And* the population is much better behaved than the shooters in our
country.

a less violent society, eh?

They are simply less violent. There were more stabbing murders in LA
last year than the total number of murders in Canada all causes.
Maybe it does have to do with our ethnic make up ... but we can't say
that.

What's the pop. of LA? What's the pop, of Canada? What's the pop.
density of both? Your comparisons don't mean squat without some real data.

LA: Population: 3.884 million (2013)
Canada: Population:35.344,962 million

LA stabbing murders: 59 (last twelve months)
http://homicide.latimes.com/cause/stabbing

Canada homicides: 1.56/100,000 = 551.38

LA homicides (last twelve months) 520

So, it looks like Greg meant to say, "...almost as many homicides just
in LA last year than in *all* of Canada."

Since a city is being compared to a country, the population density is
immaterial.

So...now the statement means 'squat'.

Based on the above statistics, I would have to agree that the
population of Canada is much less violent than the population of LA,
if measured only by homicides.

Now, if violence is measured by wife beatings and boat curb bashings,
it might be a different story.

If that is so try comparing Detroit or Chicago or Washington DC or LA to
all of the Us.

Then Luddite and Toad would call me an ingrained racist. I'd bet that
if you took the homicides in our 8-10 largest cities there would be
more than in the entire rest of the US (and Canada combined).

I heard a stat. We are fourth in the world for murder unless you take
out the four top I think NYC, Detroit, Miami and LA.. we drop to nearly
number 100 in the world for murders...

The 'then' part was out of the question, which made the 'call me' part
not applicable, therefore no words in anyone's mouth.

As to your 'gossip' comment - If the shoe fits, wear it. (Now where
have I heard that before?)

Who's Clara?

Well, there you go. I believe it has to do with the behavior of the
population therein, not the availability of guns.

Cute wiggle.

BTW ... please cite where I have accused you of being a racist?
You may be. Or maybe your're not. I don't know and have never
made any accusations.

You're hung up on the "ingrained" thing. You don't think that the way
people think, talk or express themselves isn't due to some ingrained
thought process, learning experience or conditioning?

Last I knew, NYC, Detroit, Miami and LA were all part of and located in
the USA.
