I found the key blank for the Guzzi!

Got to looking at the other Guzzi keys, and one of them had "FIAT" on it. So I went to the key guy's
site and looked at all his Fiat key blanks. Well, lo and behold, there the blank was:

http://keys4classics.com/images/019.jpg

So I messaged the guy in Washington with the news. We'll see if he can dig one up. I'd rather buy
American to show my support of our new President!

Great deal! Even though the bike is Italian I like the idea of buying (at least) American "handled" accessories. Hope it comes together in fine fashion!

Btw, I'm getting the big and am eyeballing another MV Agusta again... Also/or a super clean mid 70s 1000cc BMW. Decisions decisions

I've no interest in the MV Augusta, as I figure it would be a bear to find parts or labor for the
thing. But, a very nice mid 80's to mid 90's BMW (boxer style) would be of interest. Something like
this might be interesting:

http://moto.zombdrive.com/images/bmw-r100rt-6.jpg

But, I'm more inclined to start looking seriously for one of these:

https://baltimore.craigslist.org/mcy/6098520800.html

That one's a recent pop up on Craigslist. Maybe I'll wait 'til the Guzzi hits 100K.

That 600 scooter is really attractive. I like how he said "no lowball offers" then puts OBO on his pricing. Lol.

No, the MV is getting mor common. There is are dealers about 100 mi away for about anything I'd need. Unfortunately that's still 100 mi. But like Guzzi's they don't grow on trees like the big 4 Japanese bikes.
Anyhow just dreaming. So far....

Thats a nice looking bike, I've never seen a R75 set up that way.

After 6 months of recoup and replacing the lower leg forks and new rear subframe I rode my r/100gspd 100 miles yesterday. She ran straight and true, but for a cracked rear rim I thought was a badly seated bead.

Heading to SLC for the BMWMOA rally in July.

I think the only compatible parts between Guzzi's and BMW are the bosch charging system.

I have a ton of spares I've collected over the years since my Paris Dakar bike is rare as hens teeth these days, I've got a spare gearbox, driveshaft, final drive, and wheels boxed up ready for my wife to ship if needed on a long trip.

The one spare I do carry with me is the alternator rotor and puller, Seems to be the biggest weak point on old airheads. I also installed a euro switch years ago to turn off all lighting in case of failure.

You got that right Tim, about 8 yrs ago my Valeo starter went TU because they epoxy glue the magnets in, I did a bit of research and found Rick at Motoelectric in Colorado was building starters for airheads using Nippondenso so went with that, I think it was 400.00 plus $$, but well worth it in the end, I've not had any trouble since, Knock wood.

No, she has contacts in Europe, and maybe some of them also carry Beemer parts. Worth a call. Tell
her one of her Guzzi customers mentioned her.

I carry all the cables and the u-joint. The u-joint seems to be the weakest link in the Guzzis, at
least the older ones.

Carrying the u-joint was worthwhile on a trip to Maine. Thought my rear end had gone, and the local
(mid-state) dealer offered to lend me a rear end to get home with. While the bike was on the rack I
started it up and did a screwdriver test at the u-joint. Sounded like a can of bolts being shook.
The dealer said a rear end was no problem, but he didn't have a u-joint in stock. Luckily, I had the
spare. Soon on the road again. Soon as I got home I ordered another one. So far, about 50,000 miles,
I've not needed it. But I have to admit I shift much more gently than I used to!

BMW in their infinite wisdom made it so you can't replace just the u joint and only sell the whole driveshaft with ujoints pressed in, I've gone thru 3 so far at 200.000 miles. Mine being an enduro has a higher clearance with more angle seems to be why the failures are so prevalent in this model bike.
Also the fact that they neglected to put zerk fittings on it made it much more vulnerable to failure.

Henderson precision has a fix for it and when the next one goes that will be an alternative.

BTW, I sent You and Tim some pics of the latest adventure, Also Gord made it back from Colombia in one piece, Then had his bike shipped back.

Got the pics. The Guzzi joints don't have zerks either, although there's a guy selling rebuilt
joints with the zerks. Our drive shafts slide into the joint, but the bearing holding the joint must
be pressed into the swing arm.

I really believe going easy on the clutch (not 'popping' it) has helped me get a lot more miles out
of the current u-joint.

Got the pics and replied. Looks like fun. Dog looks plumb tuckered!

Got the pics and replied. Looks like fun. Dog looks plumb tuckered!
.....

I did too. Thanks. One thing about my goose is that it's a newer (2000) 1100 fuel injected thing. I really don't have to worry about I joint failures *yet* because it only has 21,xxx miles on it.

Not my pic, but is my model. Just add a backrest and that's pretty darn close.

My first one, on the Mille, went out around the 20,000 mile mark. On the 850T I was putting in a new
one almost every 25-30K. But I rode the **** out of that thing - every takeoff was a drag race! I've
settled down some now. Shoot, I'll even let kids in their soupy Hondas outrun me at stop lights!

John I developed that attitude some time ago after snapping the drive chains on my old Kawasaki 903. They like to bust the tranny casing and you can only JB Weld so much before you learn what causes that..

I may have a change of plans if they finish the new hwy from Inuvik to Tuk, I've already done the ride to Deadhorse but they don't let you have access to the Arctic ocean.

Well, even though that's a bit extreme ( no way in heck! Lol!) for me, I do hope you can accomplish what you wish for...
