Yawn.. boring baloney snipped.

Since it would be really difficult to defend GWB's constant struggle with

the
English language and the lack of logical development in many of his

statements,
dismissing the problem as baloney and snipping it is probably about all

that
the Bush fans have left.

This man should *never* speak extemporaneously.

I guess we all have our days. It depends on what you consider important,
eh?

Bill Clinton:

"I want to say one thing to the American people, I'm going to say this
again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I
never told anybody to lie. Not a single time. Never. These allegations are
false and I need to go back to work for the American people. "

"We can do it, we ought to be a law for everything . "

"We can't be so fixed on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary
Americans . "

"I applaud your desire to get an education and training to make sure that we
cannot ask Americans to be poor. "

"Our future and our past is linked only by our present ."

"I send our deepest sympathy to the economic well being of our people still
can't be sure of having a job or a student, or a disabled child. "

"Our job is to help families provide long-term care for a very long time. "

"What you heard me say was not what you thought I said!!! "

"We have to cut more spending, but I hope we won't cut government and
ourselves."

"I would present a five year plan to balance the budget. (6/4/92) - I think
we could be on a balanced budget probably within five to six years. (
6/19/92) - I think we could reach it [balanced budget] in seven years. I
think we could reach it in eight years. I think we could reach it in nine
years. (10/19/95) "

"The balanced budget amendment is, in the first place, bad economics. "

"I've said I've never broken the drug laws of my country, and that is the
absolute truth. "

"When I was in England I experimented with marijuana a time or two and
didn't like it. I didn't inhale and I didn't try again. "

"It's not easy to inhale smoke when you've never done it. I wasn't trying to
exonerate myself and be cute. I tried."

Everybody knows that I have tougher ethics rules than any previous
president.

"Our new covenant is a piece of paper that says they won't lose their home
if they are still working harder for less and less."

"There should be no special breaks for the Internet, but we can't allow
unfair taxation to weigh it down and stunt the development of the most
promising new economic opportunity in decades."

"We can do it, we ought to be a law for everything . "

Al Go

"I am not part of the problem. I am a Democrat."

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

"Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it."

"Democrats understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child."

"Welcome to President Clinton, Mrs. Clinton, and my fellow astronauts."

"Mars is essentially in the same orbit... Mars is somewhat the same distance
from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are
canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is
oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe."

"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very
wasteful. How true that is."

"People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have
tremendous impact on history."

"When I have been asked who caused the riots and the killing in L.A., my
answer has been direct and simple: Who is to blame for the riots? The
rioters are to blame. Who is to blame for the killings? The killers are to
blame."

"The American people would not want to know of any misquotes that Al Gore
may or may not make."

Hillary Clinton:

"I'm not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers We are the
president."

"We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is
best for society. "

"That's part of the continuing saga of Whitewater ... the never ending
fictional conspiracy that honest-to-goodness reminds me of some people's
obsession with UFOs and the Hale-Bopp comet some days. "

"The president has denied these allegations on all counts, unequivocally."

Jim:

Al Gore and Hillary are not POTUS.
You quoted some of their verbal miscues.
Not the same thing as Bush screwing up, since they are not POTUS.

You also quoted some mangle-speak by Clinton. All the time he was in office you
guys said "He's not fit to be president!"
If we're going to apply the same standards, then we should be able to apply the
same criticism. GWB's lack of *verbal* IQ (he may be fine in other areas) is
an international joke.

Clinton had little or no regard for the truth.
Bush would be unable to articulate the truth even *if* he understood it.

Language is the currency of diplomacy.
It really is important for national leaders to be able to speak logically and
coherently.
Whatever Bush's strong points might be, public speaking shore ain't among 'em,
y'all hear?

Certain Presidents have been better public speakers than others. IMO, some of
the best in the last 50 years have been Clinton, Reagan, and Kennedy. Johnson
was fair to middlin', Eisenhower was sincere, Carter was candid, Nixon was
always runnin' for his life, and others just managed to be OK. The present Bush
is at the bottom of the heap, as far as public speaking goes (IMO).

You missed my point Chuck.

Sure Hillary and Al are not POTUS, but both Al was the VPOTUS and a
presidential candidate. Hillary holds high office and is a possible
candidate in 2008. Lastly, the quotes I posted from WJC spoke loudly of his
credibility (more important than any oral blunders) and illustrated that
even a fine public speaker such as himself can slip up with verbal miscues
(as you call them).

As I said in my post, it happens to the best of them.

They're amusing nonetheless...

What's really amusing is that the guy you deem to be "at the bottom of the
heap as far as public speaking" may well be the most affable guy that has
sat in the Oval Office. Says a lot about us "common-folk"...we like people
that are like us. Honest, sincere, and likely to mangle words when speaking
in public.

Quite the opposite, Chuck. Bush should be prohibited from reading any
prepared speech or statement.

If he is only capable of reading statements produced by a team of
handlers then the public should be made aware of that, no matter how
embarrassing to all involved.

If he is incapable of speaking coherently that is pretty good evidence
he is incapable of thinking coherently. Why should we pretend that he is
anything other than what his extemporaneous utterances indicate?

Rick

Well, in past discussions here, Bush's kneepad crew have told us his
utterances are regional dialect. But, I know plenty of Texans. Not one of
them speaks that way.

Everyone makes mistakes, including me when I said "Sure Hillary and Al are
not POTUS, but both Al was the VPOTUS and a presidential candidate." I
meant to say "Sure Hillary and Al are not the POTUS, but Al was the VPOTUS
and a presidential candidate." A brain fart on my part. ;-)

Well, keep practicing. If you can attribute an ambassador's nationality to
the incorrect country while the man's standing right next to you, you can be
POTUS, too.

His formative years, the years in which such things as "accents" are
formed, were spent in New England. Southern New England. His accent
should be more like mine, and I have a barely perceptible "Yankee" accent.

Gasp! Harry, are you suggesting that his holiness is putting on that accent?
That it's an act?

Yes, just think of it. We could have a series of affable village idiots
running the country. There shure ain't no shortage of that resource here in
the states.

What we really need is some means of citing our production of affable idiots
to the GDP. By golly we'd be leading the pack by thousands of percentage
points and outpace historical growth by hitherto unheard of gains!!!

Pretty soon people'd be calling for even less funding for schools. We'd
have to look out for the "Idiot Bubble" though. Too much of a good thing
could really rattle the Fed.

I wear a T-shirt, hand lettered on the back, "This vet wants to DUMP
BUSH." I meet the most interesting people this way.

Last week a guy admonished me, stating I should give the administration
a break, that they are "doing the best they can do." What a sobering
thought.
