Mr. Luddite
- show quoted text - According to charts I found on the 'net the "124" is "normal". The "72" is "ideal". 120 or below is "ideal". So my second reading of 120/70 makes me "ideal, ideal". :-) I don't use table salt at all to add to food. I use "NoSalt" which is potassium chloride. Food itself has all the salt you need from what I understand. It took me a while to adjust to "NoSalt" but now I prefer it over table salt. Only problem is that potassium chloride is also a component of the "cocktail" used for lethal injection executions. Obviously it's in a much, much stronger dosage than NoSalt. .......... My average is 117/71. There’s enough salt/sodium in foods I usually don’t mess with the salt shaker... |

My only issue I had two years ago when I first started going to the VA was elevated blood pressure. At the time it was something like 140/93. Not off the charts, but needed to be lowered. So, I've been losing some weight slowly and have been taking a low dose medication to help lower the BP. Yesterday, two tests indicated my BP as 124/72 and 120/70. Not bad. Not bad at all for a 69 year old who hasn't really been into doing everything in a "healthy" manner. I figure tomorrow I'll go out and get hit by a bus. :-) That 124/72 is about where mine is every time I take a physical. Yet, my doc persists in saying it's a bit high and I should work on lowering it, like stop eating salt. I finally went through my military medical records and found a physical from when I was 23 years old. Yup, blood pressure was 126/74. I gave him copy, and he's gotten off my ass. KaCl has a wang to it I just do not like. I suppose I could get used to it but most of the time when I am working outside, electrolyte loss is a bigger problem than BP. |

We gave up salt in 1973. Except for hard boiled eggs and tomato slices. Was a previous drought in California and the salt water went up the river past the contra Costa water intake. Chloride warms for heart patients and my wife was pregnant complaining of swelling legs. So we got used to not salting food. |

I can be really high (155/85) and really low (107/68) but the average is in the 125/72 range. It was cruising 140/80 most of my life tho (18 and up). I do a lisinopril every day now. Highest I have ever seen my BP was 130 one time. Normal is about 112/72. My mom’s ran about 99-102 most of her life. Most of the time she could not donate blood as they wanted it over a 100. I seem to have high iron. |

I would guess, not looking it up but knowing Greg, that it's potassium chloride. I figured that's what he meant but couldn't resist busting his chops. Potassium chloride is KCl, not KaCl Bad guess on my part then. I wonder what KaCl really is? |
