Of course the virus will land there. Have the person holding the petri dish stand 6-10 feet away from the person coughing. Test wearing a mask and without a mask. Let us know the results. Just don't stand next to people who are coughing. Or talking, or singing, or breathing. Right? That is what the 6 feet is all about. If you can. That's not always possible. Go visit your local Costco and you'll see what I mean. You're starting to sound very silly. Why not? Costco is the only place I ever go that requires a mask (HQ in the first virus hot spot state, WA, may have something to do with it) and Publix is even loosening up on the employees. No Safeway here. I think that they are starting to question how effective a mask that gets worn all day, removed when they take a break and put back on, really can be. Don't ask me, ask your doctor, what is the protocol on masks in his office? Do they reuse masks between patients? How long will they wear one mask? How do they dispose of the old ones? Get back to me. If your doctor says they used a T shirt scrap wrapped around their face that they reuse all day long, run, don't walk out of there. I've been to my doctor once since this started. Everyone, including me, wore a mask. I didn't question them on their protocol. I figure they know more than me...or you, for that matter. Like I say, you're sounding very silly. -- Freedom Isn't Free! Doctors and nurses wear masks for a different reason that someone would while in Costco. Actually I agree. The medical people are trying to prevent disease, hence the protocols, the people at Costco are being politically correct and perhaps Costco is trying to avoid some litigation. === I think it goes well beyond avoidance of litigation. I sincerely believe that Costco management is committed to making both customers and employees feel as safe as possible. In the case of Costco they have made it store policy so that both employees and customers feel safer. That's not a bad thing in my opinion. I really don't understand this rebel without a cause attitude that some seem to have. It's unfortunate that the issue has become politicized. Greg is right that procedures are less than optimal and would not pass muster in an operating room, but anything is better than nothing in my opinion. Raising awareness is good also. If people don't like store policy they can always shop elsewhere. Understand that I'm not advocating to not wear a mask. In fact, my wife and I wear one when we're in the grocery store or someplace it makes sense. I was just pointing out why the procedures and protocol is different. As far as people in this area, my wife went to Publix Friday morning, and she commented that practically everyone was wearing a mask. I went to Sportman's Warehouse last week, and few were wearing them. Same for Lowes. It seems to be a macho thing to not wear one. Makes no sense to me. Like I said, the procedures and protocol in my doctor's office has changed to mask-wearing since the covid thing broke. -- Freedom Isn't Free! |

Not if they explain what they do and you compare it to what you do. Then compare both to what that 18 year old is doing at Safeway. You're sounding silly regardless of any explanations or comparisons. Just got back from Safeway. Everyone was wearing a mask. I guess we're all just 'mindless' as you say. -- === It's certainly not mindless if you look at the fatality rate for people over 70 years old. To do otherwise would be like walking into a free fire zone without a kevlar vest and steel pot. You might make it, you might not, but the odds aren't good. -- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. https://www.avg.com |

You are *still* hung up on *blocking* the virus with a cloth or non-N-95 mask. That is *not* the purpose of wearing a mask ... homemade or of the non-surgical type. "coughing into a petri dish"? Of course the virus will land there. Have the person holding the petri dish stand 6-10 feet away from the person coughing. Test wearing a mask and without a mask. Let us know the results. Just don't stand next to people who are coughing. Or talking, or singing, or breathing. Right? That is what the 6 feet is all about. If you can. That's not always possible. Go visit your local Costco and you'll see what I mean. You're starting to sound very silly. Why not? I have really only been in Costco once in the last couple months but they limit the number of people in there, they stopped giving out free food and they cleared out the aisles so you are not bunched up. Walmart is the same way. It is easy to keep a reasonable distance. If you read the current guess, they also say the problem is prolonged contact, not just walking past someone. When you look at the recent outbreaks, that seems to be true too. They are people who were sitting in pews together or at a big party, probably passing a joint around among other things. Greg, don't wear a mask. If I see you in a store or other place of business, I'll think you don't give a **** about others. Me and the other 30 or 40%, including the employees who are improperly wearing their masks or not wearing one at all. Went to Costco and Safeway today. Both had many customers and employees in the store. I saw not one person without a mask. Not one. I suppose we were all 'mindlessly following silly rules'. Bull****. You're either bull****ting the troops or you've got a bunch of uncaring assholes running around down there. The President and CEO of Costco (Craig Jelinek) *mandated* that all Costco employees and members (customers) must wear a mask in the store. Only exceptions are children under 2 years old. This mandate was issued back on May 4th. It's working. Also at our local Safeway. Like I say, you're sounding very silly. -- Freedom Isn't Free! Doctors and nurses wear masks for a different reason that someone would while in Costco. === That's true but either way I feel safer. In fact, my wife and I wear one when we're in the grocery store or someplace it makes sense.. That's nice, but you're attempting to argue with the wrong person. |
