That's not quite the way it works. Party leaders in congress rise
mostly by way of seniority, and seniority mostly means that they come

The financial markets will eventually put a damper on deficit spending
but that will be a painful cure - runaway inflation, sky high interest
rates, economy in the dumpster, etc. It will make the last couple of
recessions look like a walk in the park.
