It all depends on how Giant buys their brisket. Well, they sell it as a packers cut, all wrapped up. When Grobbel's buys it they get them in a huge crate unpackaged. I would expect they're all that way at one point or another. Just the fact that it is true makes it apparent the big corned beef producers are getting a deal. I am not really seeing the differences you are talking about tho unless it is a St Patty's day sale and they are using the corned beef as a loss leader. I cook the old fashioned corned beef like Fretwell in our instant pot...corned beef, spices, cabbage, potatoes, carrots... First the corned beef and then the veggies. Makes a nice, tender corned beef dinner. I did one corned beef on the smoker. Way too salty, never again. I only use fresh brisket on the smoker. When I do my first pastrami, I'll brine my own to control the salt content. |

I had four in the freezer from last St. P's day. Will stock up again this year. Whole briskets are good, but a lot more trouble and cost. I did the cabbage, potatoes, and carrots in the house.
