electrical problems with 1988 175 HP omc
hi to all:
I have a 1988 welcraft with a 175 HP OMC V-6. used 10 times this year with no problem. while at the lake monday, engine would not turn over, only a click, and then nothing. had to be towed in. power trim not working either. depth finder, stereo and bilge pump work, but blower doesn't had battery checked, just a quick check, and it checked out ok. put a new negative copper eyelet on neg side and cleaned terminals..no change. tried jump starting it, no sound from starter and only clicking from power trim. when i tried it today, i got a few clicks out of the starter and a few clicks from trim, then nothing from starter. put in a good car battery attached to jumper cables, which were attached directly to boat battery cables. no difference. any ideas? thanks bob |

1. Verify that the connections at the battery are good and tight. Tighten
w/ a pair of pliers. 2. Look at the battery cable connections on the engine. Verify they are clean and tight. 3. Disconnect the large red connector on the port (passenger) side of the engine and verify no corrosion inside the connector. Chances are one of these is the problem. -- Tony my boats and autos - http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "BOBISNEXT" wrote in message ... hi to all: I have a 1988 welcraft with a 175 HP OMC V-6. used 10 times this year with no problem. while at the lake monday, engine would not turn over, only a click, and then nothing. had to be towed in. power trim not working either. depth finder, stereo and bilge pump work, but blower doesn't had battery checked, just a quick check, and it checked out ok. put a new negative copper eyelet on neg side and cleaned terminals..no change. tried jump starting it, no sound from starter and only clicking from power trim. when i tried it today, i got a few clicks out of the starter and a few clicks from trim, then nothing from starter. put in a good car battery attached to jumper cables, which were attached directly to boat battery cables. no difference. any ideas? thanks bob |
