I see quite a few of them out on Chesapeake Bay these days, and they do well on the Bay. But the Bay conditions are not usually trying, other than the hard chop. The green gelcoat I see on several seems to have faded quickly, and the fasteners holding down the deck hardware are rusted on several of the boats I've seen. Also, the deck hardware seems undersized. If you're planning to engage in offshore fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, I'd find a different brand of boat. -- Email sent to is never read. |

I just bought a 17ft,forest green 2004 (here in St. Pete, Fl). Coulf not
be more happy. Able to get into 1ft water(catching bait), and out as far as 15miles on a good day(so far). Handles waves very well, comfortable, plenty of power with the 90hp sal****er merc. Bought it from Thunder Marine for $14800.00. Put an icom VHf, Lowrance fishfinder, Garmin GPS in and am very satisfied. "show me your fish" bboy |

Be careful and let us know how you and the boat are doing in 5 years. |

There will come a day when 15 miles out in a 17 ft boat will be 14 miles too far. Agreed, sort of.....I routinely take my ProLine 17 25 - 30 miles out from Saint Simons Island, GA. I have gone as far as 40 out to reach a particular reef. For us, the "stream" is about a 70 mile haul and much of the bottom is featureless sand. Sometimes you gotta go a long way to get to structure or a reef. Much depends on the wind, the weather, the sea conditions, the number of other craft in the area, and the skills of the "captain". Many times, the sea conditions outside are far preferable, and safer, to the sound or nearshore. James Sloan Saint Simons Island, GA |

The Golden Isles...you live there year-around?
Yep, moved here from Atlanta about 5 years ago. I've never been happier and the quality of life for my family is incredible. We were lucky enough to get a decent house on Saint Simons, a couple of blocks from the beach. I can't see it, but I can hear the surf and I've got palm trees in my front yard...not bad for a city boy! James |

My wife and I have been to the islands about a half dozen times. We lived in the JAx-St. Augustine area for about five years and would "escape" to St. Simons every so often. -- Email sent to is never read. |

Harry,
Next time you're in the area, give me a shout and we'll have a beer and talk boats. I'll always have some sort of project going.... James Sloan Saint Simons Island, GA |

Just because the boat show in Miami coincides with a trip I have to take to attend a meeting every year doesn't mean I go to the meeting so I can go to the boat show. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. The Miami show is a fabulous boat show, really. Kinda ruins you for other shows. -- Email sent to is never read. |

While the colored gelcoat looks good in the showroom, my experiences lead me to believe a white gelcoat resists weather better. I don't know if this fading is specific to Bayliner, but I wouldn't want to chance it with any new boat, considering the ammount of money invested in a new boat. Bob Dimond |

I selected mine in white...but that was the only option for 2003 as far as I
know. The green is something new for 2004 in the smaller Trophys. Mine is the 1802. After having had a red Sea Ray, I'd much prefer a white boat. The two different greens are options on the Trophys this year (2004). Hardware on mine is not undersized, mounted firm, all stainless. Plastic thru-hulls above the water though. Everything is beded and sealed. Dealer has been great. The boat has taken 2 1/2 foot seas quite nice. I myself wouldn't venture out in anything heavier than that in any 18 foot boat. I do have a friend in California who has the same boat with the 115hp Merc 4 stroke and he's had his out in 6 foot seas. But he's a bit nuts in my eyes. lol lol After the first season I've no rust other than one screw on the bow rail. Easily fixed. With the Merc 125hp Sal****er OB she's quick up on plane and I've had her up to 41mph (GPS) with a little more to go. I'm quite happy with the purchase and would recommend the boat. I know I'll consider Trophy quite seriously when I'm ready to step up to a 23 for my next purchase. "Bob D." wrote in message ... Any idea why they don't make longer center consoles? My first thought is that
they need the cuddy portion of the walkaround to reinforce the hull. I looked for a 23 CC at a boat show and found out they didn't exist. Seems odd for a "sport fishing" line. Bob Dimond Without casting aspersions on Bayliner's Trophy line, it might be pointed out that among the various sal****er fishing boat brands available, the larger Trophies have not been big sellers. The last list citing sales of new under 30' sal****er fishing boats that I saw had Trophy 19th or 20th. Most of the Trophies I see out on Chesapeake Bay are the smaller CC's. -- Email sent to is never read. |
