Plus you get the added bonus of pop ups and banner ads... Yeah, very nice.

using any software interfaceyou want, and where you only have to go to one place to get all these different newsgroups.

I could not get the info I needed right away....some times it would
take a couple of days if not three to find info on a particular issue.
Topics are there...they are just not easy to find. The forum is not
for my own personal satisfaction. I will need people to be moderators
and admins along with me so that we can create a easy to access
information database. the information in this paddle sport is not NOT
easily accesible anywhere that I know.

Well that's why I would need your opinions on what other topics are
needed. Will need to start somewhere no? Do you think that Usenet
started already with a 1,000,00 post or 1 x 1 posts?

Well no one has to be obligated to go. we can always delete the
forum. that's the easy thing to do.... But...I think ghettos are
cool too!

Usenet to use!

Maybe not for you, but I have a news reader that I know, I like, and I
contributed source code for. It works well for me because it doesn't
require a mouse. But the best thing is that anybody else who wants to
read any newsgroup or combination of newsgroups can use that software, or
any other. Your forum forces everybody to access it the same way.

And when I fire up my newsreader, I see every newsgroup that has anything
new. Unless you're the sort of wierdo that only has one one interest,
people who use web forums have to go to a bunch of different places to see
if there is anything new.

So after all this I was wonder if you had anything positive to provide
feedback with. Topics or anything related to the sport.

I haven't seen a single reason why I'd want to visit your site.

Couldn't agree more. Take the UK as a cautionary tale:

There is this urban myth that one or two individuals 'killed' the NG
uk.rec.boats.paddle by continually using it as a political platform,
challenging British Canoe Union etc. Then some sensitive little souls
started posting messages such as 'I can't stand all the pettiness any more,
come to the forum for right thinking canoeists'.

And people did, so now UK canoeists got what they deserve. People mainly
flock to a couple of strongly moderated forums where they get blasted with
adverts. On the plus side, forums do tend to eliminate crude spamming, or
do they, because moderators tend to write 'Dear subscriber, you'll find the
full answer to your question in my latest book xyz, available in all good
book shops' a lot of the time.

Forum = Funded by commercial interest, hence variable quality. Blinkered,
insular, pressure to confom. "Different day, same old sxxx". Tends to make
you feel smug and that you 'belong' if you toe the party line.

Usenet = Outpourings from all comers, hence variable quality. Lively
debate, access to thousands of topics. "Take the rough with the smooth".
Rarely in the comfort zone and tends to get you thinking.

Personal opinion - support your Usenet NGs and do not use a forum that
suppresses criticism of their advertisers or that discourages lively debate.

My point is that the forum is for the DEDICATEDinfo on the sport of
Kayaking, Canoeing and anything related.... Nothing to do with any
other topic. Cars, Hemingway, Computer, ETC… ETC..... DEDICATED is
the word

Nope ...It is not for me.
I think is archaic and uncontrollable. You have to brush off a whole
lot of BS to get to a specific topic. About 18,000 BS loaded topics.
Now I give you this much…if you are interested on reading BS about
anything then …sure it is the place to go. Then I pity you for it.

But I have a news reader that I know, I like, and I

Now I understand why you so fiercely want to defend Usenet. Did you
really? What you do…Put a comma here a Dot there? Good for you.

It seems that you are a computer person, most likely a C++
programmer…. You should then know that nothing requires a mouse to
work in the web. News flash…the mouse just makes it easier….. The Tab
key work everywhere and so does Ctrl and Alt and Arrow Keys, ahhhh and
don't forget the Enter key.


But the best thing is that anybody else who wants to
read any newsgroup or combination of newsgroups can use that software, or
any other. Your forum forces everybody to access it the same way.

It does not force anyone to go into it.... It is a choice. The same
way you choose to use Usenet other people may be interested on our new
forum. I use it too….don't get me wrong…I get plenty of info from it
too. After an hour or more of sweeping BS out of the way.

So if your Usenet is so perfect...How come you topic about "What
other kayaks should I be looking at?" where you got 29 responses and
only three where topic related and informational. That can be
controlled fairly in a forum environment. Not on Usenet's Post what
ever the hell you want environment. Much the same way your topic did.

You don't have to. ….it's a Forum or Bulletin Board which ever way
anyone wants to call it and it is for a DEDICATED place of information
for kayak and canoe paddlers.

I'm not here to beaker back and forth with you about the Usenet... I
respect your opinion and hopefully some day you can get the point that
the forum I started (Not hard to do) is for a DEDICATED place to find
information on a specific topic. Nothing else, nothing more.

Can you do me a favor and find for me in Usenet what people's opinion
is on
Perception Eclipse 17.0 is.
Date before 10/03. That's when I got mine.
I could not find anything on it. Not a Damn thing!

Just remember that I respect your opinion on using Usenet please
respect mine on using a Forum.

It is hardly an urban myth, I watched it happen, and I don't entirely
blame most of the old ukrbp posters for moving somewhere else, it was
very unpleasant in there at the time, somewhat like the times here when
timmy still had access to usenet.

Or set up by someone who does it for fun or as a part of a larger site,
like Mark's Uk rivers site, which has a forum, or James's Thamesweir site.
