Not enough of the guilty were killed.

Gunner

Bush voter. :-)

Guilty of "what"?

The guardsmen were not under attack.
They had to turn around and go *back* over the crest of a small hill to draw a
bead
on the demonstrators.

You're not alone in your sentiment, however. That's exactly what the state
governor said when asked his opinion about the events at Kent State.

The Kent State shootings basically took the fun out of the
protest movement. Had the military been used earlier, much of
the anti war movement would have never happened.

There are any number of countries you might consider moving to that aren't
operating under that dad blame liberal bill of rights. What's the point of
freedom of speech, unless it's used to praise Fearless Leader? What's the point
of freedom of assembly and petition for redress of grievances, unless people
are going to rally for Bush?

Your comment reflects the way most of the rest of the world is run. Too many
people in the US now think its time for us to get in line as well.

When Im charged by a violent crowd of rock and bottle throwers..I most
certainly will not wait to be killed or injured, before employing
deadly force in the defense of myself or others.

What does that have to do with Kent State? Have you been listening to history
revised by Limbaugh?

There were rock and bottle throwing incidents, by individuals, earlier in the
day.
It was almost playful, the Guardsmen picked up some rocks and threw them back.
There were no rocks or bottles being thrown at the Guard at the time the shots
were fired.

The Guard was *not* under attack when some of them opened fire on the crowd.

Citation?

Do a search on Terry Norman and Kent State. You can start here.

http://members.aol.com/nrbooks/newinfo.htm

I didn't look there as I don't trust a web site put up by some
random aol'er as any kind of authority. But I found others, and
while they say Norman was there, had a gun, and fought with some
students, nowhere has it been proved that he was there with the
specific intent to cause trouble.

Actually no. They were defending themselves (quite lawfully) against
a rampaging and riotous mob of rock and bottle throwers hell bent on
harming them.

Those Guardsmen must have thought the students had pretty strong arms. You
going to do much damage to somebody with a rock or a bottle from 350-400 feet?

* Jeffrey Miller was shot through the head 275 feet away;
* Allison Krause was shot through the arm & chest 350 feet away;
* Bill Schroeder was shot in the back nearly 400 feet away;
* Sandy Scheuer was shot through the throat nearly 400 feet away.

Gunner, who was at Kent State a week later, and knew a number of the
Guard and rioters

Since there were no rioters, I guess that
means you knew a number of the guard.

Good thing too. Never forget that charging a group of scared, heavily
armed people with mayhem on your mind may lead to your death.

Gunner

No matter how many times you repeat that, and no matter how much you wish it
were true, the students did not provoke or attack the guard.

Gotta agree with you on this one Chuck. I was pretty involved in the
demonstrations when the tragedy occurred, although I was not at Kent. I
had quite a few friends who attended Kent and were first hand observers to
the killings. A real tragedy that can never be justified.

And a typical one, too.
