Yep, I plead guilty to veering. I suppose it's just human nature,
particularly when the fundamental topic is of importance and I have a
viewpoint, right or wrong, to offer.

I feel badly though, that the OT stuff usually develops into a contest of
insults and general bull****.
I try hard to stay out of that, but not always with 100% success.

I agree, boating topics on a boating newsgroup is much better. Occasional
off topic discussion among reasonable people to share ideas and viewpoints
is ok with me also, but not the bulk of the junk we see posted here day in
and day out.
