Default Boat transport

Has anyone commercially transported a boat recently? Any gouge would be
appreciated, I have a Four Winns Horizon 200 in California and am
transfering to the Annapolis area. I requested a quote from one of the
online companies but I know it will be expensive, Is it worth transporting
the boat or do I try a sell here and buy there move? I don't want to think
about a cross country tow but...

Any transport company is going to charge $2000 or there about for the haul.
I would recommend you just tow it yourself. Spend the money on a good
moving company instead to move all your furniture.

I have hauled boats long distance before w/ no problem. Here is my process:

1. Tear down all bearings and repack and install new seals.
2. Take a grease gun w/ you to top off each night.
3. Make sure your tires are in good condition and air pressure is topped
off and check each night.
4. Make sure you have a spare tire (or two) that will fit the trailer. Car
spare will work as long as it is the right size.
5. Check all your lights and make sure they work right on the tow vehicle
you will be using.

Other than that, hook up and go.

heh, guess I shoulda mentioned my boat was not on a trailer, so had to be
hauled via piggy-back flat-bed truck.

There's an Annapolis in several states. What city are you in and what state
is the destination? Is the boat on a trailer already? For a lot less than
that amount, I'll come out and do it. G

Forgot to mention, the problem is insurance. If you are using your vehicle
for commercial purposes to haul a boat (for pay means commercial), then your
insurance is null and void and you have no insurance on the boat and
liability. So, what happens if the trailer comes loose and hits another
vehicle and kills someone. Bad situation. That is why it costs so much.
They have commercial insurance that covers all this stuff.

I would think very much of selling it. Seems as if the East coast boats
sell for less than West Coast boats, so you may be able to upgrade for the
same money + the $1-2K to transport.
