My '72 Ouachita with Johnson 50 runs fine out of water, but has severe
starting problems after sitting in water not running for any length of time. Seems to help if motor is tilted out of water, allowed time to drain, then turn the key. Can then be lowered back into water and runs like a champ. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance... Jim |

Thanks in advance... Jim I've never, ever heard that one before, Jim. You get this week's prize for the most unusual engine problem. See Clams Canino on the way out for your prize. ![]() More in a serious vein (well, about as serious as I get), I wouldn't recommend running any engine with no water to the pump. Even for a few seconds. It doesn't take long to toast those impellors. I'm wondering if it has more to do with a fuel problem, and tilting the engine somehow either clears the carb or "resets" a sticky float. Just off-hand guessing... noah Courtesy of Lee Yeaton, See the boats of rec.boats www.TheBayGuide.com/rec.boats |

The powerhead exhaust may be partially plugged up by carbons from that cheap
oil. Found the same problem at the shop with and old Merc running walmart oil.. Only way to fix it is to pull the powerhead and clean out the exhaust tube. Good Luck. "noah" wrote in message ...
