Default Garmin 225 replacement.....

Why replace it? It's a nice unit. Doesn't do WAAS (but you have DGPS).
Uses the announced to be discontinued G-chart cartridges, but you are still
good to go for a couple of years.

The equivalent unit today would be the 2006C, which will run you $2000,
plus $100 or so for the Blue chart cartography, plus more for
additional unlocks if you need them

I currently have a Garmin 225 (DGPS) interfaced to a Furuno 1621 Radar
and Standard Horizon VHF. It is about time to replace the Garmin
while it still has commercial value.

Question is.... what would you suggest as a replacement?

Raymarine Raystar 120 NMEA model. WAAS-GPS, 3 meters accuracy, the
whole GPS receiver is built right into the little antenna dome. You
provide it with 8-24V and it provides you with NMEA statements for
your Furuno and Standard. If you need another display for backup, any
Raymarine or other manufacturer's display unit will listen to it.
Watching the RL70CRC Plus display on Lionheart at the dock, accuracy
is about 6' from the antenna's position under the hardtop out of the
weather. Amazing receiver sensitivity.....NO COAX CABLE TO BREAK!
Connections to it is a simple multiconductor cable and you get a LOT
of that.... It also works with EGNOS in Europe and MSAS in Asia.

Sorry about the dupes. My newsreader was giving errors and said it had not been sent,
so I kept tweaking stuff and trying again.

The Garmin 17N OEM sensor is $100 less street price at about $180. Does
the same thing. You give it 12 volts or so and it tells you where you
are with NMEA sentences.

All... Chuck has a really nice web page devoted to his Boston Whaler
Montauk. Quite a shipshape boat with everything in its place, and a place
for every thing! You can reach the page through his work link below, or
directly through this one: http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/whaler/
