Of course, the World probably would have ended sometime in the 70's when he launched an all-out pre-emptive strike against the Soviets...but nobody's perfect. LeMay would have inititated a nuclear war... Isn't that what I just said? Regardless, his strategy for blasting Japanese cities into oblivion is what won the war for us. |

The war against the Japanese was won before we dropped the nukes. Of course it was...because before the nukes were dropped, the LeMay-led Strategic Air Offensive was dropping napalm on Tokyo and other Japanese cities. There were estimates at the time that a ground assault on the Japanese home islands would have led to 1 million US casualties. If we had to fight WWII again today, we'd sacrifice those million men rather than make the difficult decision to target civilian cities form the air (ex-- Fallujah). We don't have the stomach to do the things necessary to win a war today. |

"JimH" wrote in message ... In Don's defense the Cuban exiles involved in the invasion were trained and armed by the US CIA, all at the approval of Kennedy....so it was in fact a US led operation. Additionally the invasion was indeed a complete failure and a black eye to Kennedy. Thank you. I knew the CIA were involved but wasn't sure if the military were involved covertly. |

The war against the Japanese was won before we dropped the nukes. But the Japanese would not surrender. Took 2 bombs to make them change their mind. They still would not surrender after the first. |

Maybe if the homeless would get a job, they wouldn't be homeless. Wal-Mart is always hiring....... Wal-Mart doesn't pay enough in the city suburbs to keep a roof over your head. Yes it does, if you learn to budget wisely. I know people who do it. Granted they have next to nothing, and don't live in the best of places, but it beats the street. Dave |

My daughter's college friend went to visit family in Cuba about 5 years ago.
She kissed the ground on returning to the USA. She said it was very depressing seeing the poverty and living conditions of the people. Her people are probably common folk as opposed to the upper echelon group, close to Fidel, that the Canadian's live among. Bill "Dave Hall" wrote in message ...
