A little good news story for JohnH
The Canadian flag celebrated it's 40th anniversary today. All through elementary & jr high school, we saluted England's Union flag....commonly referred to as the 'union jack', or the Red Ensign and sang God Save the Queen. After years of debate & wrangling a committee came up with our new flag. Simple & beautiful. with the red maple leaf on a white background and red bars at both ends to represent 'sea to sea' it was a great choice. http://tinyurl.com/4bo8e |

In August of 2003 the family and I drove from Alexandria Bay, NY, USA to Montreal, CA. Driving through Ontario there were signs in English and French and the Canadian flag was displayed along with the Ontario provincial flag at all visitor centers and government buildings we saw. But, once we crossed into Quebec the Canadian flag was nowhere in sight, nothing was in English and it was a different world. |

It is bound and determined to keep the French language relevant in a sea of Anglophones. |

The greatest thing about it is it's 'recognizability'. Thanks for the story. I promise not to get angry and rant'n'rave because you posted a 'good news story'!
