Anodes or Bad Ground
I have a 2000 alpha1 outdrive on my boat and I only run freshwater.
I have looked at my anodes and they are showing some signs of decay, they don't look like they have shrunk any as of yet, they are just pitting. I mention all of this because the Problem I am having is when the boat is in the water sometimes you turn the key and nothing happens. But if the boat is out of the water it will immediately start up. I took the dash board out and cleaned the contact leads on the key socket of the ignition and then covered them with dielectric grease. The engine again starts right up though I haven't put the boat back in the water I do not think the cleaning the leads made a difference. Therefore I have to ask if anodes could cause the problem I am describing? My boat is trailered most of the time though there are times when I leave it in the water for 4 - 5 days at a time once in awhile. Thanks in advance for all of the help.........Phil |
