What's the best family recreation boat for water skiing and cruising
around for about $11k? I know this is low end but my Dad is looking at a new Bayliner I/O for this price and I'm thinking it's gonna have too big of a wake and don't know about it's reliability / value. Thanks |

Please don't make that mistake. That boat does not have a large enough
engine. For water skiing with more than 2 people in the boat, you want to get a V6 engine in an 18' boat. Find a good used on in your area at www.boattraderonline.com. For $10k you should be able to find a fairly new, good reliable boat that will fit your needs. Since you are not familiar with boats, another good piece of advice would be to go down to the local marina/boat launch on a Sat or Sun and talk to the people with boats about dealers, service locations, etc... People with boats, love to talk about boats. You will get some good local advice about who to deal with and who not to deal with. On a used boat, you want to take it to a good repair shop and have them go over it carefully. They will also tell you what they think it is worth. -- Tony My boats and autos - http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "topdog" wrote in message m... Since the Bayliner 175 is good for 45mph and most people ski at 30, with several people up and the right choice of prop it should be fine for recreational skiing. -- http://www.lake-district.info |

Speed is not the issue. Torque and ability to pull and still maintain
proper top end rpm range is the issue. 4 cylinder does not have the torque. -- Tony My boats and autos - http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Nick" wrote in message ... Low end torque to spin a big enough prop to pull a couple of skiers out of the water requires cubic inches. |

If you want to buy new, the Bayliner's about the only boat you'll find for
$10k. It is an entry level boat and the 4 cylinder engine's adequate, but no powerhouse. I've got a 19' bowrider with that engine and we go out fully loaded with adults and children: it just takes a litttle longer to get my 200 pound body out of the water and up on the skis. It's also easy on gas. "Calif Bill" wrote in message hlink.net... "Nick" wrote in message ... Tony Thomas wrote: Please don't make that mistake. That boat does not have a large enough engine.
