Default Using mixed fuel in autos.

I have about 30 gallons of fuel I mixed for my outboard that I no
longer have and I was wondering if it is safe to use it in my car,
I mixed it two years ago and added the required amount of Stabil at
the same time.

Thanks

Not as is. If it was mixed at 100:1, I 'd dilute with another 30
gallons and use it for your lawn tractor or lawn mower. Or use it as
is for your weed whacker.

Using it as is in your car is not a good idea.

I would worry a lot more about the age of the gas than the miniscule amount of
oil in 50:1.

Works fine. Just add some to each tank of gas. I have run a Chevy S0 4.3L
on mixed gas years ago, and the truck is still running fine. When you run
out of gas in the middle of nowhere, you run 100% mixed gas. Ran fine, did
not see a difference in performance.

To each their own - I wouldn't do it.

Not a problem whatsoever. I have done this for well over 20 years each
spring with boat gas mixed 50:1 and no Stabil. I dump whatever is left
in the old tanks into whatever car is nearby - usually a Ford. Biggest
side effect I have noticed is that the body starts rusting pretty good
when we approach 210K-220K-230K miles and the car gets to be 12-15 years
old here in upstate NY.

Is it safe? Well, getting gas out of outboard tanks always seems to be
a challenge, so use a big poly can on the ground with a BIG funnel to
catch the splashing as best you can. Trying to skip this step and going
right into the car makes a mess every time.

I would worry about the age of the Gas also. As for the Oil and Gas Mix
don't worry about it. I will make your Valves Cleaner. You could do like
Bill Calif said add a little to the Tank each time you fill up until you
have used up all of the Gas. Say you have a 20 Gallon Tank put in 5 gallons
each time..

Go for it. I put 6 gals or more of 50:1 fuel in my car an the end of
the season all the time. With the 10 or so gals of fuel already in
there the ratio of oil is nil. wait for your car to get half a tank
and top off with your mixed fuel. Even at 50:1 in 10 gals of fuel
thats 25.6 oz of oil. with 10 gals of plain fuel already in there then
it is 12.8oz of oil. a very small amout. My car does not run any
different with 2 cycle oil in the fuel. it does not even smoke.

If you fill your tank with oil mix you could cause all sorts of problems for
yourself. As a minimum, your car is going to smoke a bit, which wouldn't be
good if someone reported you as being a "gross polluter".

My real concern is that the oil could mess up some of the fuel injection,
oxygen sensors (and other smog stuff) and it might do bad things to the
catalytic converter. If you live in a state that requires periodic smog
inspections you might be surprised when you car fails the next one.

Fixing the smog stuff can be expensive. I wouldn't risk it, I would just
find someone who has an outboard and give the gas to them.

Well, this just isn't the case in my experience. I can't think of any
easier, safer, cleaner solution to disposal of unneeded 50:1 mix, assuming
it's not full of contaminants, water, etc - and that could probably be
filtered with a chamois.

I've put 5-6 gal of 50:1 in the tanks of various cars (older carb and newer
F/I), on many occassions over the past few years. It combines with 5 - 15
gallons of plain gasoline already in the tanks for a net very low oil
content. No smoking, no performance changes, no problems - ever - with
annual emmissions inspection and testing. I have no idea what would happen
if I "filled the tank" with 50:1 - I've always thought it would be more
prudent to mix 5 per car tank to dilute it, it's easy enough to do.
