Hello,
My friend has a Volvo Penta 270 Outdrive in good condition hooked to a Volvo AQ125A. He wants to swap it out for a Volvo Penta 740 (?) Can This be done with the current outdrive? Is there anything that needs to be replace like the bellhousing or is his only route upgrading the outdrive. Tried talking to some volvo marine dealers but all they want to do is sell you a complete new engine. Thanks! Tony |

The 270 drive will not handle the horsepower the 740
puts out. Volvo beefed up the upper gearbox in the 290 drives to handle the big block engine. The lower unit has the wrong gear ratio too. Curious...what boat is he pulling out a 4 cyl ohc engine for a 454 big block? Carl G. Craver "tonycougar" wrote in message ...
