I would highly recommend a garmin mapping handheld unit. With the maps, you
always know where you are. Handheld means you can use it in the car and on the boat. The garmin units have info about every interstate exit and rest area so you can find what hotels and restaurants are at each exit along the way. Check the garmin e-map or the etrax - Legend if you want inexpensive. e-map is discontinued in terms of garmin but are still available on ebay and in some stores as leftovers. Check www.gps4fun.com and http://shopping.yahoo.com for good prices on both units also. -- Tony my boats at http://t.thomas.home.mchsi.com "Habda" wrote in message ... I actually prefer my garmin street pilot over the newer ones. It has a nice
big display and the black and white screen is easy to read. Get a garmin, they rule! KH "BD" wrote in message . .. In article 1vkec.14017$_K3.50875@attbi_s53, says... Just dont drive a car and try to use it. Worse than the cell phone crowd (which im one!!) I would highly recommend a garmin mapping handheld unit. With the maps, you always know where you are. These are the features that I would like to have included: Way Points Distance Traveled (Able to Reset) Speed What would you recommend? I recently bought my first GPS. My goals seem similar to yours. I just basicly wanted to know where we are and have some general informaiton. I would have liked a GPS with the mapping (maps on the display). But then the cost was quite a bit more. So I figured: Buy a cheaper one a use it for a year or more. That will give me lots of experience to know what I will want when I buy the next (better) one. There were smaller ones that were cheaper, but I figured on the boat I wanted one that was submersable and had some features that were more boating centric. I bought the Garmin GPS 72. A good site with all types of information: www.GPSinformation.net Good luck. Gary and I figured I can start with a simple model and learn a lot with it before spending more money on |
