Default I tore up floatation foam

while installing kicker bracket on the transom. I tore out large
foam pieces from the inside. Now the protective surface on the foam
is gone, open cells readily soak up water. What can I use to seal the
surface of the foam ? I'm thinking some kind of paint .. cheap and
available from Home Depot? Any suggestions ?

It is closed cell, only the exposed "broken" cells will hold any water. You
can paint it with just about any latex if you want to.

Also Sprach Lawrence James :

I guarantee that the water will eventually penetrate deeper than that. I
did some renovations on my 20 yr old boat last year, and found that in
some spots, water penetrated 2-3 inches into the "closed cell" foam.

Outdoor latex should work, but I used a sealant designed to be applied to
concrete basement walls to treat some areas of foam which I had to trim.
