while installing kicker bracket on the transom. I tore out large
foam pieces from the inside. Now the protective surface on the foam is gone, open cells readily soak up water. What can I use to seal the surface of the foam ? I'm thinking some kind of paint .. cheap and available from Home Depot? Any suggestions ? |

It is closed cell, only the exposed "broken" cells will hold any water. You
can paint it with just about any latex if you want to. "steve" wrote in message om... while installing kicker bracket on the transom. I tore out large foam pieces from the inside. It is closed cell, only the exposed "broken" cells will hold any water. I guarantee that the water will eventually penetrate deeper than that. I did some renovations on my 20 yr old boat last year, and found that in some spots, water penetrated 2-3 inches into the "closed cell" foam. You can paint it with just about any latex if you want to. Outdoor latex should work, but I used a sealant designed to be applied to concrete basement walls to treat some areas of foam which I had to trim. Dan -- I am not part of the problem.
