Default Power Trim

Does anyone have experience with troubleshooting a power trim for an I/O?

My 1974 Searay 188HP MerCruiser will not hold up. There are no leaks in the
cylinders or in the stainless flexlines and I have not had to refill the
pump reservoir. Does anyone know if there are replaceable gaskets/O-Rings
Inside the pump (i.e. rebuild kit) for power trims?

It's most likely an internal bypass in the cylinders or the pump itself
which I assume is electric. Could be pressure by-pass on the pump
impeller or the lift cylinders themselves. I've had both happen to me
in the past 30 or so years. It isn't hard to fix, but I would replace the
seals, impeller and cylinder gaskets - this kind of pressure problem
almost always requires changing everything anyway because it's always
the last thing causing the problem. ;)

Seals and stuff are available - I just redid an '83 Johnson power
trim/tilt for a friend - had no problems getting the parts. You will need
a schematic though - these system aren't complicated, but they do have
a fair share of parts.

Good luck.

Later,

Tom

I'm not familiar with your particular boat, but yes, there are rebuild
kits for the internal seals.
