I have a 14' aluminum fishing boat with bunk trailer. The bunks are pretty
short, sitting up 90 degrees. unlike other trailers I saw they have long bunk with 30 degrees mounted on the trailer. The problem I have is loading the boat back to the trailer, usually it takes 2-3 times in order to get the boat align properly on the bunks. In my past experience, if it didnt work I had to push the boat back in the water and tried it again until the boat sat right on the bunks. That's pretty annoying. I do have the side guides but didn't help much.. I am very frustrated... Any boat loading tips? Tony |

Side mounted guide-ons. I use tall 2 inch PVC tubes. Some use roller
devices, angled inwards. Another thought is to set up some short, centered guide-ons to capture the bow as she comes on and keep her on track. Look around the next time you are at a busy launch and you will see a dozen different solutions. How far off of "properly aligned" are you talking about? Is it a small
enough amount that you can nudge the boat with your shoulder once the trailer's out of the water? "Tony Jai" wrote in message . cable.rogers.com... to get the boat align properly on the bunks Any boat loading tips? Sounds similar to my Thunderbird tri-hull. The bunks are horizontal and there's a couple of narrow flat places on the bottom of the hull that rest on them. Getting the right amount of water over the trailer seems to be key. Back it too far in and there's not enough weight resting on the bunks to keep the boat from getting swept off them by any current that's present. If I don't get it far enough in to winch all the way up on the first try, I just back up a little more and finish loading. |

You didn't give enough info to fully describe you situation. Is you hull a
flat boat ( jon boat) or does it have a pointed bow and some forward vee? Without knowing anymore I could only say that maybe you are backing your trailer in too deep and the boat is floating around over the bunks and when you pull out the boat settles where ever until you get lucky and have is cone to rest in center on your third try? Anyway if this seem plausible, then try to load your boat while it has some contact with the bunks, ( don't back in so deep). -- Ron White Boat building web address is www.concentric.net/~knotreel |
