I have a question regarding the launching of inflatable boats and
transom wheels. I have an Achilles RIB inflatable (130 lbs), with motor (60 lbs). I need to "carry" the boat up from the water onto the beach above the high tide (this will be done on a typical beach in the Puget Sound, and not on a boat ramp). This is impossible with one person, and way too difficult even with two people to help carry the boat to high ground. What are my options for purchasing transom wheels? Are the tires wide enough for our beaches in the Puget Sound (our low tides give us a soft beach)? Can they handle the stress of pulling them over the usual rocks (not the huge ones of course), and through some softer ground that we usually have with our low tides in the Puget Sound? I'm considering the Davis Wheel-a-Weigh 16x6.5. The larger tires for their width to help with our soft beaches. Thank you, Jake Tacoma, WA |

The Eide's have spring loaded catch and are easier to flip the wheels up and down. The Wheel-a-ways have a pin you have to remove and reinsert. |

I just installed those wheels on my 13 foot inflatable, with a 18hp 4
stroke. Used them in upper NY state on a lake. Worked great. These are very wide tires, need for sand. I bought them he https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|294|101765&id=122336 Wayne I have a question regarding the launching of inflatable boats and transom wheels. Eide look like great tires (model Model 2200-10). I like the idea that
they are 10 inches in diameter vs. 16 inches of the Davis. They seem wide enough (assuming they are 4 inches). While they may not have the surface area of the Davis (their width and diameter or smaller), the tires may do just the job on the low-tide beaches of the Puget Sound. Plus they won't be as monsterous as the Davis 16x6.5 on a 10 foot inflatable boat. Even though Davis has the 16x4, I don't like the shape of the wheel. It is more oval shape, which would have less initial surface area. |
