Default 62 Johnson 20HP Schematic?

Would anybody happen to have some schematics for this type of outboard
motor? 62 Johnson 20HP?

Thanks

They're very simple. What do you need to address?

I could probably scan something for you if your addy is for real...

Sure, just remove the capitals from the email address. "REMOVETHIS"

I'm primarily interested in the carb area / air box area. I think there's
some pieces missing on this old gal and she's not running good at all.

Thanks

Default 62 Johnson 20HP Schematic?

Thanks Rob.

Problem is rather interesting, and the following should describe it:

2 years ago the problem with this motor began. She would foul plugs and
miss heavily at speeds faster than idle. As soon as a new set of plugs was
put in she would run perfectly for the next 10 minutes including all speeds
(feel like a new engine), then the same bogging would happen. Once again,
if a new set of plugs were put in, she'd be good to go for another 10 mins.
During the bogging stage she'd die once in a while, but would still run for
some time during this stage where she was misfiring, and top speed would be
1/5 of usual speed. The motor had new gas mixed to 50:1. Got sick and
tired of it, and gave up.

She sat for almost 2 years without use and left it as is.

Last weekend had to use it due to a problem with my other motor. Mixed
brand new gas in a clean tank, motor started up without touching any plugs
and ran perfectly for 1 solid day. Use was at all speeds and with trolling,
so I can say I likely used at least 1/2 tank of gas with this motor running
perfectly. Then after that it started. Same problem as 2 years ago. Just
out of the blue she would be running bad like before. Same thing here, put
new plugs in, and she'd be good for a while, but then restart the problem.
We tried a new gas line, and used two different tanks. Despite this
problem, we had to fish, so we were able to manage a trolling speed with it
stalling out once in a while.

When looking at the motor there is a lean / rich mixture knob on the front
of it, and there seems to be no airbox around the carb. It didn't appear
that the knob changed anything when turned either.

That should sum up the problem here.

Cheers
Chris

On the 1962, there should be 2 mixture knobs, low & high.

I think your problem is weak or leaking ignition coils. It is way past
time for an ignition tune-up anyway, so while the points & condensors
are renewed, inspect and test the coils as long as the flywheel is off.

Oh yes, very easy to get. Sierra makes an entire line of aftermarket
tune-up & repair parts, and the stuff you will be looking for is OEM
stocked at any reputable OMC shop, & lots of Mom 'n Pops will have
motherloads of NOS common parts.

so what it needs is specifically the ignition coils, the points and the
condenser?

Don't change them blindly, the contact points are service items, the
condensors & coils should be examined & tested using the proper
equipment (Stevens, Merc-O-Tronic, etc.). If the coils have
broken/cracked jackets, don't bother testing, just replace. This is a
common failure on older OMC's. If you can't test the condensors,
replace with new as long as you have the flywheel off.
