Default New member needs information

Hello - I plan on buying a used boat - hopefully around 28 feet, and
hopefully with twin outboards for off shore fishing in the gulf of
mexico off the middle Texas Coast. We have to run a long way out to
get to big fish b/c of the gradual increase in depth. I need
information - a good objective report source on boat manufactorers and
engines. Boat shows in Houston only have a few good brands (it seems
like). Are there only a few good brands, or do brands typically
dominate by region? Any help on a good source for information - even
comment boards like this one, would be appreciated. Thanks. Cennwulf.

I always recommend that people take a look at what boats are popular in
your particular area. Usually that will lead you to a boat that is
reasonably well suited to your conditions and purpose, but just as
importantly, it may lead you to a boat with a strong local dealer and
service. There are lots of good boats in the 28 foot range but get to
know some of the locals and ask their advice. Take a look around the
docks and see what others are using. Go out on a few charters and talk
to the captains. Those guys really know what holds together and who is
providing good service.
