Default Exhaust Manifold & Elbow Replacement Advice/Tips/Tricks

I have a Mercruiser 5.7 350MAG. I'm planning on replacing the exhaust
manifolds and elbow's at the end of the season. Anyone have any tips on
doing so? The only problem i forsee is one of the bolts trhough the
manifold into the block is very rusted to the point where i don't even think
i can get a grip with the special socket set. My thoughts are heating it
and then removing the head and slide the manifold out then work on the bolt
into the block... Any suggestions ? ? ?

Thanx...

They are just long bolts so you are correct that if you cut the head off you
can slid the manifold off. I'd be tempted to just saw or grind it off.
Then you will have plenty of bolt shaft to work on with vise grips. After
that you can soak it with wd40 for awhile if you need to. Just give it
another shot every day or so for a while. Stainless marine has some nice
aluminum manifolds with ss risers for sb chevys if you're interested in
aftermarket stuff.

You might start prepping a week or so ahead of time. Use liquid wrench on
the bolts every other day to dissolve the rust. The bolts usually are not
hard to get out. Use a good quality 6 point socket if you can. If SAE is too
loose try a metric, even if you have to tap it on. work slowly and don't
apply too much force. I've never had a GM bolt fail to come loose. Fords
are a different story.

Removing the manifolds and risers is not normally a big problem for one person.
I've done it twice now. I'd start putting some penetrating fluid on the bolt you
mentioned, and keep doing it until you're ready to do the work. Perhaps a
vise-grips will work then.

On re-assembly, coat the bolt threads and shanks with anti-seize
compound. Next time around, you will be glad you did.

If it is asalt water boat or has dver been in salt water be very careful
if you have to remove the heat exchangers. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO DRY OUT.
As soon as you get them off refill tehm with antifreeze so that they don't
develop a hard scale which is practically impossible to remove later,
