Default Re OT--Farrakhan states levees *were* blown up

NYOB,
If you read a few of the posts in today's rec.boats, you will see we have a
few "progressive" posters who are as delusional as Farrakhan.

Farrakhan is now stating that the levees *were* (not "may have been") blown
up to flood the black areas and save the white areas from flooding around
New Orleans.

"Mayor Nagin told us there was a 25-foot crater under the levee," Farrakhan
explained, before cautioning that the New Orleans Democrat "didn't say there
was a bomb. He just said there was a crater."
Farrakhan then added: "I say they blew it [up]."

"Divers inspecting the ruptured levee walls surrounding New Orleans found
something that piqued their interest - burn marks on underwater debris
chunks from the broken levee wall," Farrakhan said.

"One diver - a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - saw the burn
marks and knew immediately what caused them."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Making this kind of accusation is akin to falsely yelling "fire" in a
crowded theater. The man ought to put up proof...or be arrested for
inciting a riot.

It's called a boil. When water undermines a levee and comes up to the
surface of the ground on the protected side it causes an eruption which can
blow the earth out leaving a crater behind. It's very common and frequently
occurs during high water conditions.

The Army's Corps of Engineers Emergency Operations people frequently deploy
to flood prone areas when high water threatens the levees. They deploy with
diesel "Gator Pumps" which are used to keep up with leaking boils while
material is dumped upon the boil and compacted to stop the leak.

It's a very common event.

YMMV.

I was waiting for someone to point that out. ;-)
